Finding Wellness

268 episodes - English - Latest episode: about 1 month ago -

The wellness space is cluttered with gurus who swear they have the best solution but the truth is only YOU know what works best for you and your body, mind and spirit. We've been conditioned to think of health as thinness or the absence of illness. But we need to start thinking more holistically beyond just what our body looks and feels like. My goal is to help you look at your whole life: your career, your spirituality, your mental health, your environement, etc. to see how you can support your overall health and wellbeing. Get curious, listen to your body, and start making small shifts today that will have a big impact tomorrow! You are worth the time, money, energy and effort required to live a full, complete, happy and healthy life!

158. Life Update: Body Image and Fitness While on Vacation

March 28, 2024 09:00 - 27 minutes - 19 MB

In today's episode I talk about how to navigate your wellness goals when life comes at you fast. It's OK to take a few steps back and adjust your expectations of yourself sometimes. In fact, I would argue that doing this instead of either giving up entirely or trying to "push through" will set you up to get "back on track" quicker in the long run. I also share about a recent experience I had with negative body image thoughts and whether or not I should workout on an upcoming vacation.  Conn...

We live in an Amazon Prime, instant feedback driven world and the same is true for our health. We might give something a try for a few days or even a few weeks and when we don't see immediate results, we QUIT! 150. It's OK to have body goals but I don't miss the person I was 5 or 10 years ago

July 20, 2023 12:00 - 22 minutes - 15.4 MB

Today we're talking about the gym, summer shred programs, wanting to lose weight and get back to your old self. For me, I've come to a place where I do have weight loss goals BUT I'm not attached to an actual "goal weight". I have an idea in my head around the weight I was when I felt strong and fast. BUT I wouldn't trade who I am today for who I was then. That person was a hangry bitch. She was full of anxiety and her coping skills were limited to spending hours doing cardio and drinking to...

142. Toxic messages about mental health in the wellness and personal development spaces

February 23, 2023 11:00 - 20 minutes - 13.9 MB

Today we're discussing two of the most toxic messages about mental health in the wellness and personal development spaces. These two messages in particular were a HUGE part of the reason it took me so long to get help for my mental health. Be careful who you follow, who you're getting advice from and the beliefs you choose to subscribe to. Make sure you're not getting in your own way when it comes to feeling better. Also understand that medicine is a piece to the puzzle, not the end all be a...

139. "Getting in shape sucks" - Is this mindset holding you back?

February 03, 2023 14:00 - 20 minutes - 14.1 MB

We're one full month into 2023 and many of us are working on our wellness goals. I heard a saying on a podcast that I thought I really connected with. That saying was "being in shape is awesome, but getting in shape sucks". When I heard that I thought, OMG that's so f*cking true! But as I've taken the last month to step up my running game and "get back in shape" I had a change of opinion around that saying and that mindset in general. I hope this reframe benefits you as you continue on your ...

138. Finding the line between self-care and self sabotage - it's a journey

January 19, 2023 15:00 - 22 minutes - 15.2 MB

I've spent the last few years on a journey of learning about myself and healing from anxiety and depression. Along the way, I've learned the importance of self care and really became protective of my energy. And while that is an amazing thing to be able to do for yourself, I also didn't really push myself out of my comfort zone too much and held myself back from growth along the way. I'm not upset about this because it's all part of the journey! BUT I'm ready to push myself this year in my w...

November 29, 2022 16:00 - 17 minutes - 12 MB

The internet is flooded with fitness gurus who are shouting from the rooftops the best way to get fit, lose weight, etc. I'm here to remind you that YOU are the expert on you. There is no one size fits all solution to your health and wellness. I've fallen into the trap of believing these fitness influencers, profressionals, etc. that are available to me online know what's good for me more than I do. I'm slowing coming out of that and will be experimenting with some things that I believe work...

130. A heartfelt look back over the past year

November 03, 2022 15:00 - 22 minutes - 15.2 MB

I know we usually evaluate the year at the end of December or beginning of January, but I had an epiphany recently that forced me to take a look back over the past 12 months and everything that has happened since last November. "There's no massage in the world that's going to undo a decade of neglect!" If you're sick of hearing things like "make sure you're practicing self-care" it's likely because you're thinking about it all wrong. When I talk about self-care, I'm  not talking about the spa days, the bubble baths, the weekend get-aways, etc. I'm talking about the disciplined habits throughout your day and throughout your week that prevent you from getting to that depleted place. Self-care shouldn't be a grand g...

October 25, 2022 20:00 - 17 minutes - 12.1 MB

Let's ditch the all or nothing mentality when it comes to prioritizing our self-care. Today we're talking about using the idea of a minimum baseline to make sure you're getting your needs met no matter what! Because yes, it would be great if we could all have a full hour (or more) of self-care practices every day. But the reality is that's not always possible and some days really are just jam packed. So if we can establish a bare minimum effort, that takes 10-15 minutess max, we make sure th...
