The whānau of two Māori students who attend Epsom Girls' Grammar say they are upset their children were  asked to perform a karakia on a human skeleton found at the prestigious Auckland school.  They say it is a breach of tikanga and they want the Ministry of Education to do a 'stocktake' to see if there are bones at other schools. The bones are believed to have been used in the past for teaching science. Ella Stewart reports.

High failure rates for new literacy, numeracy tests

A study has found taking 3800 steps per day can meaningfully reduce dementia risk. The study collected daily step counts for more than 78,000 healthy adults, and seven years later followed up to see which of them were diagnosed with dementia. It found higher numbers of steps, and faster steps, were associated with a lower risk of dementia. One of the authors, professor Borja del Pozo, spoke to Corin Dann.
