You gotta listen to this episode to find out. Please share and please subscribe.

Happy Tuesday - One-On-One with my Voice Command Remote!

September 09, 2020 05:53 - 7 minutes - 13.7 MB

I have many "Reasons for Living." Some are dead serious (pun intended); some are not! The VOICE COMMAND REMOTE is my Reason for Living #65! I love my remote.  And it is definitely one of the reasons I was really happy today. As we get closer to the election, I'm looking for joy in everything and finding it. Join me!  Even though the weather was weird today, my remote did not let me down!  I quote this Wall Street Journal article in this episode of One-On-One. Here is the link: https://www...

Are you ready for Fall 2020? I am definitely raring to go. Happy to see summer in the rearview mirror. As everybody is posting pictures of their vacations and picnics, etc., I've just been home. Trying not to get COVID19!  As an old, washed-up political reporter, I'm happy to get ready for the election cycle. Many important issues are facing us. I'm going to focus on the issues, not the personalities. I'm also going to focus on the POSITIVE. Stay with me. Please subscribe, download, and shar...

My COVID19 Scare! - Just a Painful Sinus Infection (Time to Share Symptoms Again!)

August 27, 2020 00:42 - 7 minutes - 14.4 MB

I recently had a COVID19 Scare! But it was just a painful sinus infection. My head ached, my muscles were sore, I felt fatigued.  I was having trouble swallowing and breathing. These symptoms are similar to COVID19 symptoms.  I immediately turned to the internet and the CDC.  The Centers for Disease Control's website is excellent. It helped me and my doctors determine that I did not have COVID, I had a nasty sinus infection. Two reasons I am sharing this story. Knowledge is power, better to ...

The Compliment - Always Say Thank You!

August 22, 2020 10:40 - 11 minutes - 20.3 MB

How do you handle praise? I rarely dealt with professional approval in the right way. I mismanaged many personal and professional compliments.  Please do not do what I did for so many years. When someone says something kind to you, respond in a friendly, positive way. If you are at a loss for words, say two, "Thank you!"  I am dedicating this episode, "The Compliment," to John Wallace. A former anchorman and a friend. John gave me one of my first compliments for my reporting, and of course,...

The Demanding Boss - What To Do?

August 15, 2020 03:35 - 11 minutes - 20.5 MB

How do you handle a demanding boss? There's only one Way - Talk to him or her! If the boss is NOT a Bully, the One-On-On discussion is the Best Way to go. The issue is not that you can't handle the demands. The point as always is, life happens. We all have problems, and sometimes the Demanding Boss is just going to have to understand.

We Are Still NOT Talking to Each Other - One-On-One

August 11, 2020 01:16 - 8 minutes - 15.8 MB

I had an epiphany on Sunday. Here it is: I'm more addicted to Video Games than ever before. That's saying a lot. I've always loved them. Even when it was just PONG. I love them. But I'm going COLD Turkey. I'm going to stop playing for a couple of weeks. Why? Because I'm not talking to family members. Not One-On-One. Not with my undivided attention. I'm not giving up Movies. But I'm not playing games for two weeks. This includes Cross Word Puzzles. As I write this, I'm breaking out in a cold ...

Mistakes at Work - Mistakes in Life

August 04, 2020 06:02 - 8 minutes - 16.4 MB

There are errors and missteps, and then there are Major Mistakes! Things happen. Things go wrong. I’m not talking about major life-altering mistakes like driving a car when you are drunk. I’m talking about typos that you didn’t check. Or saying the wrong word during a live broadcast.  Most mistakes can be fixed.  Communicate - Always say you are sorry, own it, fix it if possible. Then move on.  Face your mistakes - One-On-One.    Music: Island by MBB https://soundcloud.com/mbbofficial Cre...

People - The Golden Rule and Karma

August 03, 2020 08:32 - 6 minutes - 11.5 MB

Once I was friends with the Vice President of Human Resources, and he jokingly said to me, “I love my job, except for one thing, I have to deal with people.” When I think about dealing with people, of course, I think about talking with them. Sharing a conversation. But if you are rushed or stressed or upset, a good one-on-one can do more harm than good. Words can hurt. So take a moment. And remember – Karma!   Links: https://ideapod.com/heres-great-explanation-karma-really-means-can-impro...

August 03, 2020 08:32 - 6 minutes - 11.5 MB

Having a conversation with a Rude person is difficult. There is an urge to be Rude right back! Please don't do it. We've all been rude at one time or another. But fight it. Here is the definition of Perfect, "The condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects."   We all strive for perfection. Make Friends - Live Longer!

July 30, 2020 23:27 - 9 minutes - 17 MB

How many times have you been "Unfriended?" It's happened to me many times and not just online. Multiple studies show that friends, real friends help us all live a longer life. In fact, research from Australia documents that NOT having friends cuts our lives as short as Smoking 15 Cigarettes a DAY!    I need to make more friends!   Related Links: https://www.inc.com/jeff-haden/this-study-of-300000-people-reveals-1-secret-to-living-a-longer-healthier-life.html https://www.nytimes.com/200...

Another Bad Day - Lessons in Better Communications

July 19, 2020 07:04 - 20 minutes - 38.2 MB

I had a really bad day recently. Another one. My Bad Day was filled with valuable lessons on how to be a better communicator. A loved one had medical problems, we had to call 911. And then a number of things went wrong after that; and once again I found myself circling the hospital searching for a place to park and not finding one. As always, bad times are made worse with bad communication. If you stay calm and talk to each other and explain the situation the disaster can turn out okay. Not ...

Beating Depression! [Step-by-Step Ways To Fight Sadness]

July 08, 2020 23:24 - 11 minutes - 21.2 MB

I Beat Depression every day. Sometimes it isn't easy. But take it step-by-step. This is my plan. If you need help please see a doctor. There is actually a name for what I once called my "Creepy Sunday Feeling. Researchers call it "The Sunday Scaries" and "Sunday Night Dread." It is an increased level of anxiety because Monday is a workday for most of us. There are ways to beat the Sunday Scaries and if the pandemic is creating more anxiety and depression for you those same solutions can hel...

July 08, 2020 23:24 - 11 minutes - 21.2 MB

There is actually a name for what I once called my "Creepy Sunday Feeling. Researchers call it "The Sunday Scaries" and "Sunday Night Dread." It is an increased level of anxiety because Monday is a workday for most of us. There are ways to beat the Sunday Scaries and if the pandemic is creating more anxiety and depression for you those same solutions can help. Just don't despair. We are all in this together, and the sadness is usually temporary. I quote many articles in this episode of "One...

June 16, 2020 09:58 - 14 minutes - 25.8 MB

The number of people who will begin practicing a RELIGION is expected to increase in the coming years, according to a recent study. There is no study on the number of people who have FAITH. Faith is defined as having complete Trust and Confidence in someone or something. Now is a great time to have one or the other or both. Political Women Vote!

June 11, 2020 06:12 - 23 minutes - 42.3 MB

I'm a Political Woman & I Vote! What I mean is, I like Democracy, I like watching the political process, I like voting. So this should be one of my favorite years. 2020 is a Presidential Election year, and it is also the 100th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment which gives women the right to vote. And we DO Vote! Women vote in higher numbers than men and have done so in every election since 1964. In 2016, 9.9 million more women than men voted. This information is from the "Cent...

Racism, Riots and VOTING!

June 02, 2020 05:17 - 10 minutes - 19.4 MB

It's been a difficult year. It began with COVID. Then the highest unemployment rate in history. 20 Percent. Businesses and Jobs are lost forever. And at the end of the Month of May: Race Riots. Riots! Looting! Fires! Another white cop killed a black man on May 25.  It is horrific that I use the word "Another." Because this has happened before. And before and Before! We are sick of this. We wonder what we can do.  We feel bad because we are not black, we don't know what it's like and there ...

Three Stinkers - Movie Monday

June 01, 2020 09:27 - 14 minutes - 26.5 MB

Kinda grumpy this weekend. Maybe it's the horrible news that's got me down. The rioting, the COVID, the jobless rate are all sad and depressing. Or maybe it's just bad films. One of those films that I review is "Lucy in the Sky." It is loosely based on the real-life story of that "Staker-Female Astronaut."  Remember real-life astronaut Lisa Nowak's. She was the alleged stalker of fellow astronaut William Oefelein. I remembered the story because the press reports focused on the fact that she...

Office Politics - One-On-One with Edward Jones

May 27, 2020 20:44 - 34 minutes - 62.4 MB

Every Office has it whether it is acknowledged or not.  Office Politics can become a cancer that kills the team.  And it costs U.S. companies billions each year. I purposely buried the lead. There are steps that can be taken to destroy the Office Politics Beast. Edward Jones had years of insights and information on how to deal with “Office Politics The Right Way.” Edward is an Executive Coach, and author and an inspirational speaker.   He is my guest on One-On-One: Communications in the D...

A War Hero and a Lesson for All of Us

May 25, 2020 09:32 - 7 minutes - 14 MB

Happy Memorial Day weekend One-On-One listeners. One of the films I am recommending this Movie Monday features a story about a war hero who served his country without hesitation but lived a personal life filled with regrets. The film is "The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot." It stars Sam Elliott and it is great. The film is filled with great One-On-One communication tips. I hope you have a chance to watch it. Let me know what you think. Please share and subscribe.

The Hardware Store - Just a few Words

May 22, 2020 05:18 - 11 minutes - 10.7 MB

Yes, I love shopping. More than ever, I long to go to the Mall. But I also have another store I love: The Hardware Store. To wander among the faucets, and lumber, the pool supplies and the paint. Yup. I'm a fix-er-upper. My last trip to the hardware store was different, yes, but the people there are the same. They are, in a word, Wonderful.

Movie Monday: Watch "Goldfinch"

May 18, 2020 08:21 - 11 minutes - 10.8 MB

I watched some great movies last week. My top pick is "Goldfinch," and a remix of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is my other most enjoyed film, "Ophelia" stars Daisy Ridley.   Although I watched more than just five flicks, my other choices are "Paradise Hills," "Seberg," and the 1945 film "Sabrina."  So many choices, so much time. I hope you are able to watch some of my picks. And please comment. Download. And share.    Royalty-Free Music for YouTubers!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tjpv3VZG...

Doctor Dreamboat : Reason for Living #25

May 16, 2020 03:08 - 8 minutes - 7.77 MB

Yes. My mother always told me to count my blessings. And yes, I try. But it isn't easy. Especially now. I miss so many things. Mainly, I miss people. And hugs. And adult conversation. But NO! This episode of One-On-One is not about that. I just want to remind everybody to keep grabbing onto JOY where ever you can. That said, I always try not to tell people to count their blessings. It sounds like I'm a Miss Goody-Goody.   Instead, I say, this is another Reason for Living. For example, "Th...

Let's Go To the Movies!

May 13, 2020 03:44 - 10 minutes - 9.3 MB

I read an article that outlines all the projects we can undertake now that we are spending more time at home. I made my list. I look at the list every day. But instead of doing my chores, I sit down on the sofa and watch a movie. I love film. There is nothing else I would rather do. And to be honest, I've always wanted to spend more time catching up on all the movies I love. And watching all the ones I have not seen.  Still, I feel guilty, just watching and not working. So why not write a ...

May 11, 2020 04:47 - 9 minutes - 12.8 MB

Are you a mother? How was your Mother's Day 2020? There were many, many people at the grocery store buying roses yesterday, including me. I've loved being a mom; even though, at times, I felt like I was not a great mother. I'm hard on myself. But, we all make mistakes. This podcast is for all mothers. I just have this to say to you, please don't be too hard on yourself. Don't be like me. It's a difficult job. At times it seems impossible. But we do it. We love them, and as difficult as it is...

Just a Few Words about my Sister

May 07, 2020 07:54 - 7 minutes - 10.6 MB

In addition to my One-On-On Interviews and communication Tips, I have been sharing my thoughts on my podcast for some time now. So I decided I would give these episodes a title. I'm calling them "Just a Few Words." This episode of One-On-One is "Just a Few Words about my Sister." It also happens to be her birthday. Happy Birthday, Sis. Love you and Miss you! See you when the "Damn Pandemic" is over. The picture on this episode of Just a Few Words about my Sister is my Sis, Liz Moraga Garcia ...

Why Don't You Like Me? and Why Don't I like You?

April 10, 2020 07:37 - 12 minutes - 22.7 MB

I’m hearing the question, “Do you like me?” frequently these days. The question comes from my 3-year-old granddaughter after she has done something, she knows she shouldn’t. An example, stuffing toilet paper in our water cups. When we reach for the cup to take a sip of water she says, “You’ve been pranked.” Then she asks the “do you like me” question. You like to think that you outgrow the desire to be liked. But you don’t. Think about our social media posts. We still do wants those “likes”...

Watching Movies: One-On-One with Film Professor Roberto Pomo

April 08, 2020 05:47 - 29 minutes - 54.8 MB

Are you watching more TV as we try to stay home and safe from COVID19? I certainly am spending even more time streaming my favorite films. What better time to chat with Dr. Roberto Pomo, film and theater professor. I worked with Professor Pomo at Sacramento State and enjoyed watching him teach and direct students on the stage. Pomo is a Renaissance Man, a writer, a scholar, and an all-around great guy. If you want to know what movies you should be watching with a guarantee that you will enj...

The New Normal and Advice from Gandalf, the Wizard

April 01, 2020 02:38 - 9 minutes - 13.2 MB

Here is a new word I read today for the first time, “COVIDIOT.” The Urban Dictionary defines a covidiot as “Someone who ignores the warnings regarding public health or safety. A person who hoards goods, denying them from their neighbors.”  That not-so-nice word is just one of many we are using every day during this COVID19 Pandemic.  Today we got dire warnings from the President and our top infectious disease doctor. My advice is to remember what Gandalf said to Frodo. Please Subscribe and ...

COVID 19: What Does the Stay-at-Home Order Mean?

March 21, 2020 07:05 - 9 minutes - 16.5 MB

An executive order from the governor has ordered 40 million Californians to Stay-At-Home. Governor Gavin Newsom issued the decision on Thursday, March 19, 2020. Now, many are wondering what exactly does "Stay-at-Home" order mean? Are we prisoners in our homes? If we go out to grab a burger will we be in "trouble?" I spoke with retired police chief Dan Davis and his down-to-earth answers made me feel so much better. I hope my One-On-One interview with Dan helps you.

CORRECTING BAD COVID-19 INFORMATION

March 18, 2020 03:02 - 5 minutes - 5.21 MB

There is a saying that I love from an old Bette Midler movie. It’s about a set of twins who were switched at birth. One set was the Bette Midler character, the other set was Lilly Tomlin. The Movie was called Big Business. At one point the level-headed, business-oriented Thomlin character says, “Lord, my load is heavy.” I use that phrase often. I like it. I’m using it now. Because the podcast and video I produced about the COVID19 virus included incorrect information. It was wrong. Basically...

Going Home...and Leaving ...

December 11, 2019 02:20 - 12 minutes - 11.3 MB

Being successful can sometimes happen because of one person. One mentor, one friend, or a family member. Every time I return home for a visit, all the memories from my childhood come flooding back. I remember how much I wanted to leave home; and how happy I am with that decision. I left to earn two college degrees and to enjoy a career I loved. Other young women aren’t as fortunate as I. To all those people, men and women, just know you can do it. Just don’t ever quit! The statistics I us...

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 28, 2019 06:19 - 8 minutes - 7.44 MB

It's the night before Thanksgiving and I made a special Ham dinner tonight in preparation for the BIG day tomorrow. I'm getting up early to make my stuffing/dressing and I'm going to videotape the entire prep for YouTube. It was a request from Movie-Buddy-Special Nephew Joey.  All of us cooks are busy shopping and cooking; everybody else is going to be watching television or on cell phones and tablets. Remember to take the time to talk to each other One-On-One, as you count your blessings. ...

Going Home - Talking with Family

November 12, 2019 05:10 - 14 minutes - 13.6 MB

Communicating with Family isn't easy. Sometimes the people we see every day or the people we love the most are the ones we have trouble connecting with and talking with.  My latest trip home was rough, from start to finish.  The statistics I use for this episode on the numbers of Hispanics attending College are from the Pew Research Center. Bad Day - Bad Communications

October 27, 2019 00:42 - 21 minutes - 19.9 MB

I had a really bad day. We all have 'em. If I had communicated just a little bit more and a little bit better, it would have been a different day. Better. Much Better. There were words I could have said; things I could have done but I blew it. I hope this episode helps you in some way. There was one good thing, but you must listen to the entire episode to find out what it is. Please subscribe.   Thanks to YouTube for the royalty-free music and to Brick Music for the song used in the episod...

Five No-No's Direct from the White House: How Not to Communicate

October 20, 2019 23:29 - 15 minutes - 14.4 MB

Every now and then I allow myself an angry rant. This podcast episode is about improving One-On-One communication. But I'm going to use a BAD example to tell all of you NOT to ever do this. Great communication requires PRACTICE. It doesn't happen Magically. It's work. Right now there is a crisis going on in Washington D.C. my adopted HomeTown. I watch CNN sometimes and my mouth just drops open. Some of what is being said and done is unbelievable!!! However, we can take some of the negatives ...

It's Wednesday! How-To Be Thankful Everyday
