How Not to Screw Up Your Kids

282 episodes - English - Latest episode: 24 days ago - ★★★★★ - 3 ratings

The How Not To Screw Up Your Kids podcast is for parents, grandparents, educators, and anyone else who wants to be part of a movement to raise confident children who grow up believing in themselves. With twice weekly episodes - on Monday's you'll find shorter Bucket Emptying episodes, with longer episodes each Thursday.

The greatest gift we can give our children is self-belief. It will get them further in life than any qualification and is absolutely possible for each and every child; we just need the right information and support around us to teach them. The old saying ‘it takes a village to raise a child” couldn’t be more true than now.

Parenting has got a whole lot harder; not just because we are busier than ever but because our children are growing up in an ever changing, fast-paced world, which is so different to the one we grew up in.

Our children have more pressure to be better, look better, do better, and in a world where lives are so publicly scrutinised and commented on through social media it’s really no wonder we’re seeing mental health problems sky rocketing amongst children, teens, and young adults.

What you can expect from this podcast are honest conversations about parenting. We’ll talk confidence resilience, anxiety, managing tech, and all the topics you’d expect as well blowing the lid off the widely help misconception that children are innately resilient. They’re not!

This podcast is for people who want to get real about parenting. You understand it can get messy sometimes and aren’t afraid to admit it. I have had more than my fair share of messy and I will no doubt share these with you along the way.

I won’t dress things up but I will always give you something practical to take away and use in each and every episode.

My guests and experts will be real people who have overcome their own adversities and bring with them a message to us as parents, as well as inspiring stories.

So pour yourself a cuppa, find a comfy seat, and enjoy the conversation.

August 24, 2022 23:30 - 29 minutes - 41.8 MB

Let’s talk honestly about the impact of social media. From Twitter to TikTok and the whole Metaverse in between, it is now well documented to have a significantly negative impact on our children’s mental health – linked to depression, anxiety, and increase suicide rates. What do we need to know about these platforms, how do we help our children and teens navigate these platforms, and where do we draw the lines? I’ll be answering these questions and setting out my honest thoughts on social ...

Ep 063: Sibling Dynamics

August 17, 2022 23:30 - 29 minutes - 41.8 MB

Siblings argue, this is perfectly normal. They are vying for a limited resource – our time.  Yet the type of battles our children have with each other, are very much influenced by the ‘role’ our children play within the family dynamics. You cannot begin to make meaningful changes, until you fully understand, and potentially address any issues which arise from these roles. I will talk about ‘roles’ and how they are created, before moving onto how we can avoid constantly refereeing our chi...

July 20, 2022 23:30 - 31 minutes - 45 MB

Toxic relationships are on the rise! They are friendships which aren’t healthy – they’re not about mutual respect, trust, and sharing. Ep 057: Has My Child Got an Eating Disorder?

July 06, 2022 23:30 - 29 minutes - 41.2 MB

It is estimated 1.25 million people have an eating disorder in the U.K. and the data is pretty similar worldwide. Eating disorders are a mental health condition where you use the control of food to cope with feelings and other situations. Unhealthy eating behaviours may include eating too much or too little or worrying about your weight or body shape. The key, in my view, is being able to pick up on the early warning signs, so support and intervention can be put in place before it become...
