Forgiveness is a process that begins with a personal decision to overcome emotional pain when you are ready to do so.  According to the worksheet on therapistaid.com, there are four phases of forgiveness. The first phase is to uncover it, not sweep it under the rug like it never happened. It did happen. It hurts. It is also unfair. You have every right to talk about what happened and how it has impacted your life. Healing begins with talking, not suffering in silence. Remember, forgiveness is for you, not for the one who hurt you.
