Welcome to the TeachStrong Podcast.

In this episode I talk to Dr Yami Cazorla-Lancaster. Dr Yami is “a board-certified paediatrician, certified lifestyle medicine physician, health and wellness coach and a mother of two active and healthy boys”.

Dr Yami works in many different capacities - as a paediatrician, an author, a speaker, and a coach. And today I want to talk to her about her biggest passion - helping families with children eat the healthiest foods possible.

There is increasing interest in whole food plant-based diets. Many people are hearing about the positive benefits this way of eating can have on their health and the health of the planet. However, those with children, and pregnant or breastfeeding women, might be concerned that if they change their diet, they won’t be getting the nutrients they need, or their children won’t be getting the nutrients they need.

So, this conversation is all about discussing these concerns. What does the research say about plant-based diets and children? Will children or mothers be putting themselves at risk if they eat less or no animal products and more plants? Are there any key nutrients we should focus on? What is it like raising plant-based children and are there any “go-to” foods or recipes?
