Transpower issues grid warning over generation concerns

Transpower has issued a warning notice this morning that there is a risk of insufficient generation and reserve offers to meet demand in the North Island. The national grid operator Transpower has called on power companies to ramp up generation this morning to meet an expected surge in demand and manage demand where needed.

No more spring snow but it's still frosty

Some homeowners are feeling a heavy strain as a result of interest rate hikes, with the Official Cash Rate lifted a further 50-basis points yesterday, to 3.5 percent. The hike was expected, and is the eighth straight increase in the OCR. Loan Market director Bruce Patten says some home owners, or soon to be home owners, are facing a year of pain due to the hikes. Snow has fallen down to sea level in Christchurch and Dunedin is covered in white after the polar front hit the motu.   Metservice has warned the freezing temperatures could cause stress for livestock, putting pressure on farmers to make sure their animals are safe. David Acland's mid-Canterbury farm had a two-and-a-half centimetre coating of snow yesterday. He says the snow hasn't been too much of an issue for his stock, but the wind chill is a worry.

The Ministry has based its funding on forecast student enrolments for 2023, and much of the decline will be in primary and intermediate schools. Children's Commissioner responds to Oranga Tamariki Ombudsman report

Banks Peninsula dealing with more extreme weather
