Picture yourself sitting on the bank of an oasis. A date palm rustles in the breeze. It hasn’t rained in years, but today thunder cracks in the distance. Quickly a storm sweeps in over the oasis. Relax and close your eyes. Let the sounds of the rolling thunder pull away your anxiety. Focus on the sound of the water. Your heart rate slows. Everything is calm and serene.

Why I made this soundscape:

This week I was reading an article about how before the industrial revolution humans used to have two sleep periods during the night. They would go to bed around 9:00 PM and then wake up between midnight and one. They would get up and for a few hours, and then go back to bed for their second sleep between two and six in the morning. The idea made me feel a bit better. Maybe waking up at three AM isn’t so odd.
