The Nevada County Supervisors Deny Rise Grass Valley’s Idaho Maryland Mine Project But The Story May Not Be Over

An overwhelming majority of Nevada County residents do not want the Idaho Maryland Mine to reopen. Whether Rise Gold recognizes that fact remains to be seen. The company has indicated that it may sue. 

Rare California Tornado Could Hit Sacramento Valley

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center forecasts a 5% chance of isolated tornadoes across portions of the Sacramento Valley, including the city of Sacramento. UCLA-affiliated climate and weather scientist Daniel Swain says that, while the chance of a tornado at any one geographic point remains low, the cumulative risk across the area is not insignificant.

Board Of Supervisors Hears Presentations And Public Comment On IMM Project

On Thursday, Nevada County staff and Rise Gold attorneys both presented their case to the board of the supervisors before the public was allowed to comment. Today, the board will listen to the remaining public comment before summary, and is then expected to adopt a resolution. 

The Nevada County Elections Office Is On YouTube

Using fisheye cameras mounted on the office ceilings, the Nevada County Elections office began broadcasting a live uninterrupted feed to YouTube on Tuesday. 

Public Participation And Attendance Encouraged At Final IMM Hearing

Recent Storm Upgraded to "Bomb Cyclone,” Nevada County Activates Emergency Operations Center

National Weather Service meteorologists have upgraded the most recent storm to a “bomb cyclone.” The Emergency Operations Center was activated here in Nevada County to respond to the storm. Public Works Road crews worked through the night removing trees, addressing drainage issues, and clearing debris from county roads. CAL FIRE Urges California Residents To Actively Prepare For This Week's Storms

Here in Nevada County sand is available in 4 locations: next to the Nevada County Warehouse on the corner of Highway 49 and East Broad Street in Nevada City, at the Penn Valley Fire Protection District on Spenceville Road in Penn Valley, on the ridge at the North San Juan Community Hall on Reservoir Street, and at the Higgins Fire Department on Combie Road. Residents will need to bring their own bags and shovels. Bags are available at local hardware stores.

Palisades Tahoe Is In The News Again, Woman Spends A Night In A Heavenly Ski Resort Gondola

At around 5 PM last Thursday, at Heavenly Ski Resort, a woman boarded a lift gondola intending to ride down the mountain but the lift stopped just minutes later, while she was still in the sky. The women spent the night rubbing her hands and feet together to fight off the cold--according to the National Weather Service, the overnight low temperature was 23 degrees.

Avalanche Kills Skier At Palisades Tahoe Ski Resort, The League Of Women Voters Of Nevada County Solicits Questions For Candidate Forums

Four skiers were swept up by an avalanche at the Palisades Tahoe ski resort in Olympic Valley. A 66-year-old Truckee man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. -- The League of Women Voters of Nevada County will hold candidate forums for the March 5 Primary election in late January and is asking the community to submit questions for the candidates.
