Alternate Ending - Movie Review Podcast

385 episodes - English - Latest episode: 9 days ago - ★★★★★ - 108 ratings

Alternate Ending was formed when three friends realized they all shared a passion for movies. Our goal is to save you time and money by sharing our thoughts and recommendations on which movies to race to theaters for, which to watch at home and those to actively avoid.

What makes Alternate Ending different from other film podcasts? Well, we’re not 5 dudes in a room talking about our passion for Fight Club and Braveheart. We’re two dudes, and a lady, of which our tastes are quite varied. Rob, the film-school dropout, has seen an absurd amount of movies, and if we’re being honest, rounds out our Fight Club fan-base. Tim Brayton, our seasoned film critic, shares a more critical view of film, an appreciation for vintage cinema and perhaps limited-release movies that we might otherwise miss. Carrie, our casual movie-goer, reminds us all that cinema is in fact supposed to be fun and entertaining and that sometimes, just sometimes, happy endings are good.

Too many film sites cater to the same kind of audience, with one overwhelming voice in the writing, but what we treasure at Alternate Ending is diversity: diversity of opinion, diversity in belief about what film should do and how it should do it. We want to celebrate our different opinions, and celebrate yours as well.

This isn't a podcast for people who just want to talk about the latest hot new movies in theaters right this minute. This is a place for people who can't get to the theater until the third week a film is out; a place for people who just want to find something great to stream online after the kids have gone to sleep, a place for people whose favorite pastime is to grab a bunch of classic films on DVD from the library and watch them all weekend. It's a place that believes that every great movie is a wonderful new treasure, whether you see it the night of its premiere or fifty years later. It's a site about discovering good movies... one bad movie at a time.

Join us for our weekly review of movies worth seeing, worth avoiding and our Top 5 lists – and don’t forget to play along at www.alternateending.com.

Top 5 Films of Summer 2021

October 04, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 94.5 MB

It's taken us a few extra weeks, but the Alternate Ending crew has finally caught up with all of the big films of the summer movie season, and we're ready to share our picks for the top 5 films of summer 2021. A small, lower-key summer than some of the biggest blockbuster seasons of yore, but anything would feel like a return to form after 2020, and there have been some gems hiding out in the still-quiet multiplexes.

2021 is racing by at top speed, and here we are, ready to greet the fall movie season, with all of its Oscar hopefuls and Christmastime blockbusters alike. And a particular packed fall movie season, too, with many of 2020's delayed titles finally appearing alongside a whole wave of new productions. Pass The Popcorn: Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings // Don't Breathe 2 // Vacation Friends

September 14, 2021 23:35 - 1 hour - 96.1 MB

It's our inaugural episode of Pass The Popcorn and we while we have many directions we want to take this new format, we just had to review Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, given our respective obsessions with Marvel, Simu Liu and Tony Chiu-Wai Leung, we just had to get this movie out of our system. We've had an eventful last few weeks with COVID super-spreader events, anniversaries and phallic gift deliveries and of course, you know we love to tell you all about those gory detai...

Top 5 Conspiracy Thrillers

August 31, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 145 MB

We've got another podcast by request of one of our Patreon subscribers, with Hallvar∂ur asking us to take a look at the dark and paranoid world of shadow governments and secret societies with our top 5 conspiracy thrillers. Stories of hapless, helpless protagonists stumbling into serpentine mazes of amoral men in shadowy rooms pulling strings to guide the course of the world to God knows what end were at their peak in popularity in the 1970s, but they existed before then and continue to exi...

Top 5 Short Films // Free Guy // Annette // Pink Flamingos // Guess Who's Coming To Dinner // Iron Man

August 16, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 136 MB

Our next episode comes at the request of Patreon subscriber Travis, who wants us to think small: we're temporarily putting aside feature-length movies to share with all of you our top 5 short films of all time. From slapstick cartoons to documentaries to the wilderness of the avant-garde, the world of short cinema is every bit as varied as its more visible long-form sibling, and we're going to look into every corner of that world for our favorite proofs that it's not about size, but about w...

Top 5 Ensembles // Jungle Cruise // The Craft: Legacy // The Saragossa Manuscript

August 05, 2021 04:52 - 1 hour - 150 MB

In hardly any time at all, we're going to be getting DC's The Suicide Squad, a reboot-sequel that surely somebody anywhere in the whole world was clamoring for. In the meantime, this story of a bunch of colorful weirdoes played by a star-studded cast has us thinking of all the other times that movies have given us a chance to gawk at all our favorite actors gathered in one place, or just to be suitably bowled over by the sheer quantity of acting talent. We're taking a look at our Top 5 ensem...

Bride of AE: TETSUO: THE IRON MAN (1989)

July 27, 2021 05:00 - 49 minutes - 93.9 MB

This month on Bride of Alternate Ending, Tim and Brennan are covering the 1989 experimental body horror masterpiece(?) TETSUO: THE IRON MAN! Thank you so much for being a patron!

Escape Room 2 with The Game Master // Black Widow // Space Jame: A New Legacy // Pig

July 20, 2021 13:37 - 1 hour - 105 MB

With Escape Room Tournament of Champions hitting theaters this week, we decided to mix it this episode up a bit.  You see, your respective hosts each have an unfounded confidence that they are, in fact, the most talented Escape Room-ers, that probably ever existed.  I say this because, JUST last weekend, the AE crew traveled to Escape in Time - Madison to test our wits in their new Cryosleep room. The short story is, we only used one clue and made it out of the room with 20 whole minutes ...

Top 5 Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies

July 06, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 140 MB

Black Widow is coming to theaters next week, and with it, a nearly two-year drought in the theatrical output of the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes to a close (I mean, come now... they don't call it the Marvel Direct-to-Streaming Television Universe, now do they). And with 23 extant films making up this biggest and baddest franchise of modern filmmaking, that's more than enough for us to make our comparative lists of the top 5 MCU movies. For some of us, this means the cream of the crop of m...

Bride of AE: Videodrome (1983)

June 30, 2021 05:00 - 46 minutes - 87.8 MB

This month on Bride of Alternate Ending, thanks to Patreon subscriber Travis, Tim and Brennan are covering the David Cronenberg classic VIDEODROME! Thank you so much for being a patron!

Take 2: Ponyo (2008)

This week on Take 2, Carrie joins Brennan to discuss her official number 1 favorite Studio Ghibli film, PONYO, and how it got that way.

Top 5 Studio Ghibli Films

June 21, 2021 23:51 - 1 hour - 143 MB

One-third of the Alternate Ending team couldn't possibly be more excited for our next topic, which has been gifted to us from Patreon subscriber Gavin. And since he's the one writing this post, there's not going to be any dissenting views on the idea that Japan's Studio Ghibli is one of the most wonderful, special, spirit-lifting film production companies in the history of the medium (we'll agree to pretend that Miyazaki Goro never tried to follow in dad's footsteps). And thanks to Gavin's...

Take 2: Love, Simon (2018)

June 14, 2021 05:00 - 59 minutes - 101 MB

This week on Take 2, Carrie joins Brennan to nominally discuss 2018’s Love, Simon although it’s mainly just tangents about coming out, improving the world, and swallowing.

Top 5 Movies for Parents

June 08, 2021 02:05 - 1 hour - 106 MB

Our next podcast topic comes to us thanks to Patreon subscriber Not Fenimore, who has left us with an intriguingly open-ended topic: our top 5 movies for parents. Whether this means the top 5 movies for parents who have been conscripted into watching movies with their kids,  the top 5 movies for parents to use as teachable moments about life or morality or such things, the top 5 movies for parents to learn how to handle their children, or something else entirely, has been left as an exercis...

Take 2: The Conjuring Films

June 01, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 116 MB

This week on Take 2, Tim joins Brennan to break down everything Conjuring, Annabelle, Nun, Llorona, and whatever the hell else James Wan and company throw at the wall to see if it sticks! Join us for our ranking of all 9 films, the struggle to figure out the series timeline, and the Greatest Showmanization of Ed and Lorraine Warren!

Summer Movie Preview 2021

May 24, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 124 MB

Well, we successfully rallied together to compile our Summer Movie Preview 2021 pull ourselves from our pessimistic trenches and look forward towards a new year with new theatrical possibilities! We know you may not share our optimism, just yet, but with the possibility of seeing A Quiet Place Part II together in a theater on the horizon, nothing can crush our spirits.  For fun, we even went back to our last Summer movie preview and it's hard to believe that was TWO YEARS AGO. Personally,...

Take 2: Casper (1995)

May 17, 2021 05:00 - 52 minutes - 93.8 MB

There was a tie in the poll for this month’s Bride of Alternate Ending, so Tim and Brennan are moving one of those fateful picks on over to the main feed and picking up a Carrie along the way! That’s right, we’re talking CASPER and the mass Devon Sawa sexual awakening that struck America’s tweens in 1995.

Top 5 Movies for the Big Screen // Stowaway // Things Heard and Seen // The Kid Detective

May 10, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 129 MB

With the 14-month freeze at the North American box office starting to melt over the last few weeks, and looking to melt even more over the next few weeks, the Alternate Ending crew thought this would be a great time to celebrate the theatrical experience. Our next episode is dedicated to our picks for the top 5 movies to see on the big screen, the kind of film where watching it even on your fancy 4K home theater rig just isn't enough, whether because of the sheer scale of the images, the nee...

Take 2: Húsavík, Best Original Song, and EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: THE STORY OF FIRE SAGA (2020)

May 03, 2021 05:00 - 56 minutes - 103 MB

As a followup to Alternate Ending’s Oscars recap episode, Tim is joining Brennan this week to discuss EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: THE STORY OF FIRE SAGA, the Oscar-nominated song “Húsavík,” and the state of the Best Original Song Oscar in general!

Oscars 2021 Reactions: The Best and Worst Moments

April 27, 2021 14:20 - 55 minutes - 75.5 MB

The Oscars are over and I think we can say a collective "well, that was weird".  The location, the speeches, the music trivia?  On this 93rd Academy Awards dedicated episode we cover all of our Oscars 2021 reactions.  We take a look at the best and worst moments, out thoughts on the upsets and the usual end to the whole affair.  To be fair, it's not all bad.  In fact, we find a whole handful of things that we really enjoyed.  Most notably, it seems highly probable that somebody phoned in the...

A Worthy Binge - The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 Ep 6 // This is a Robbery //

April 25, 2021 22:24 - 1 hour - 89 MB

We made it to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier SEASON FINALE and we're feeling pretty proud.  I guess the old adage is true "misery loves company," because I was feeling pretty solid about the collective AE jabs at the cheesy writing and blatant social commentary.  Though, I overheard a gal tell Rob on a work call that she is "absolutely loving The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," that it's her "favorite Marvel series" and that she "loves it way more than Wandavision.  Of course all of this ...

A Worthy Binge: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier // Mythic Quest // The Office // Fixer Upper

April 22, 2021 02:14 - 49 minutes - 68.2 MB

5 episodes down, 1 to go! The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E5, brings us... honestly, it's hard to remember.  We recorded the episode 3 days ago and it's already a blur.  If I'm remembering the high points correctly, it went something like: The fake Captain America gets relieved of his hero status and they ask nicely for him to return his shield whenever is convenient for him.  Then the Falcon decides to pass off his wings to Torres, begging the question of whether or not this will make ...

Top 5 Acting Oscar Winners // Chaos Walking // The Sleepover

April 19, 2021 12:45 - 1 hour - 129 MB

We are literally a week away from the Oscars and we're all (just Rob and I, actually) scrambling to see as many Oscar nominees as we can, in advance.  Like all good procrastinators, we're taking our time to look back at years past at the best awards winners in the Academy's history, with our picks for the Top 5 Acting Oscar Winners! For an added treat, Tim also drops in his bottom 5 acting Oscar winning performances.  We all breathed a deep sigh of relief when Jessica Tandy narrowly escape...

A Worthy Binge: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 Ep4 // Made For Love // Unwell // Money Heist // Last Chance U

April 14, 2021 05:00 - 39 minutes - 53.6 MB

Well, we're still here.  Here at Alternate Ending, we're nothing, if not resilient.  I'm sort of joking, but as we make our way through The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E4, the lingering feeling that this show was made solely for my Dad, is growing.  I know we mentioned on our last episode that there were quite a few plot points to wrap up, but this episode has chosen to only unravel the spool more. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E4 brings us my favorite Marvaleers - the Wakanda...

Take 2: Twilight

April 12, 2021 12:25 - 48 minutes - 91.9 MB

As a followup to Alternate Ending’s Top 5 Rivalries episode, Brennan is sitting down with Take 2 virgin Rob to discuss TWILIGHT, how it ended up on his list, and why he took it right the hell off!

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E3 // The Last Cruise // Animated Oscar Shorts

April 07, 2021 05:00 - 52 minutes - 72.3 MB

Well, we made our way through The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E3, we're half way there! This episode brought a few fun surprises, a flurry of new characters and a hefty smattering of loose ends.  There is absolutely no way that this show can resolve itself in any sort of satisfying way, in only 3 more episodes, but godspeed to the writers. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E3 provides us more insight into the motivations of the Flag Smashers and leaves us grappling with who we real...

Top 5 Rivalries // Godzilla vs. Kong // WeWork // Assassin 33 A.D.

April 06, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 116 MB

With Godzilla squaring off against King Kong (for the second time!), we've turned our attention to some of the best versus-es in cinema history. We're getting ready to fight about the top 5 rivalries in movie history, the antagonism and fighting and lifelong grudges and discovering that you both have mothers with the first name "Martha", and all of it. In Worth Mentioning, we cover Godzilla vs Kong, Assassin 33 A.D. and WeWork.

A Worthy Binge: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E2

March 31, 2021 05:00 - 49 minutes - 68.3 MB

I'm calling it now, I don't think this is going to be my favorite show of all time (we can't all be Friends), but nevertheless, we're back with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E2, because it's fun to commiserate about the flare and flaws that come with millions of Disney's dollars. Admittedly, we were feeling the love (well more like, a solid first date where nobody does anything creepy) for episode 1.  I don't know if the high just wore off a bit, but we collectively were feeling a ...

Take 2: Rocky

March 29, 2021 05:00 - 43 minutes - 68.3 MB

As a followup to Alternate Ending’s Top 5 Belated Sequels, Brennan is sitting down with Carrie to discuss a movie both of them just watched for the very first time… ROCKY! Join us as we discuss the moments in the film that haven’t aged quite so well, Carrie drops a bizarre truth bombs about the biology of empathy pain, and we generally just have a conversation that certainly won’t make anyone mad under any circumstances!

A Worthy Binge : The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1. E1. // Search Party // Servant // BrainDead

March 24, 2021 13:00 - 54 minutes - 75.4 MB

As soon as we hit 4 content feedback survey submissions and with 50% of those saying they were interested in a podcast dedicated to television, Rob deemed it necessary that the Alternate Ending community know our immediate feelings on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Unlike Tim, who after a long, stressful day unwinds with a little Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom, sometimes Rob and I just won't make it through a 2-hour-and-something movie, by the time the kids have come down 17 times to t...

Top 5 Belated Sequels // Zack Snyder's Justice League // Cherry // I Care A Lot // Across 110th Street // Flora & Ulysses

March 22, 2021 05:00 - 1 hour - 125 MB

With a big thank you to Patreon subscriber Carter, we officially had the most fun we've had in a LONG TIME covering our Top 5 belated sequels.  Despite having more overlap than we've had in awhile, we still manage to find ourselves carefully belittling each others picks.  You know, like real friends do. We had a lot to catch up on and lots of news to share! In worth mentioning, Rob reviews Flora & Ulysses and Carrie brings her loving feelings for I Care A Lot. Tim shares is not so loving ...

Take 2: The Godzilla Franchise

March 13, 2021 17:45 - 54 minutes - 97.4 MB

As a followup to the Spoiler Alert episode discussing Kurosawa’s Kagemusha and Ran, Brennan is sitting down with Tim to discuss the Godzilla franchise, many of which were directed by Kurosawa’s compatriot Honda Ishiro! Join us as we discuss the various horrible forms that baby Godzilla has taken throughout the years, our top (and bottom) 3 Godzilla films, and even get a scoop on next week’s main feed episode!"

Yes Day: Interview with Miguel Arteta

March 12, 2021 19:47 - 23 minutes - 32.5 MB

I love my kids.  Though, between you and me, I also really loved my life before kids too.  I've definitely sunken into all of the parenting cliches of glueing finger paintings all over my house, seeing my friends almost never and saying things like "because I said so" a million times a day.  The thing is, I swear used to be fun.  I never missed a party (like never ever, actually, I probably should have skipped a few). I traveled, hiked, biked, spiked... I was in a band for Godsakes!  But hav...

Language Lessons Interview: Mark Duplass and Natalie Morales

March 09, 2021 18:14 - 51 minutes - 70.8 MB

Real talk.  The most common question I get from friends about Alternate Ending is, "how do you juggle it all, on top of jobs and kids and the rest of your life?" The motivational speech answer is, we juggle and take on too much, until one of us feels like we're on the verge of a panic attack and then the other person rises to the occasion, if the other breaks.  Feel free to write that down in your wellness journal.  On this particular occasion, Rob was on day 5 of the same pair of sweatpants...

Spoiler Alert: Kagemusha and Ran // Tom & Jerry // Coming 2 America // The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run // Raya and the Last Dragon // Language Lessons // Yes Day

March 08, 2021 06:00 - 1 hour - 116 MB

Our next podcast topic comes courtesy of Patreon subscriber Andrew, who had a simple request: watch and discuss two of the richest, most exhausting costume dramas ever filmed. It's a Spoiler Alert this time around, as we dive deep into the late epics by the legendary Japanese director Kurosawa Akira: the 1980 Palme d'Or winner Kagemusha, and the monumental King Lear adaptation Ran, from 1985. That's almost six hours of the most sumptuous pageantry Japanese cinema (or world cinema, for that ...

At The Ready Interview: with Director Maisie Crow

March 06, 2021 16:56 - 22 minutes - 30.4 MB

At the Ready premiered at Sundance 2021 and I was super excited about it.  It appeared on my most anticipated films of Sundance list, in fact.  The headline reads "a group of seniors train to become border control agents at El Paso's Horizon High School, near the US/Mexico border." I surmised that the film would feature stupid kids that don't have a big-picture view on humanity. Then, over the course of At the Ready I was going to feel all warm and fuzzy as these kids are given an education ...

Take 2: Brokeback Mountain

March 01, 2021 06:00 - 55 minutes - 99.2 MB

Welcome to the inaugural episode of Take 2, a sideshow hosted by AE contributor Brennan Klein, where every other week we will dive deep into a movie mentioned on the previous episode. As a followup to the Top 5 Love Scenes episode, Brennan is sitting down with Carrie to discuss a movie she had never seen before: 2005’s BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN! Join us as we discuss our differing opinions on who is the more frustrating partner, Carrie goes to great lengths to make sure she can see every detail...

Wild Indian Interview: With Gavin Brivik

February 27, 2021 23:02 - 27 minutes - 37.8 MB

Wild Indian made it's debut at Sundance 2021 Wild Indian stars Makwa (Michael Greyeyes), a young Anishinaabe boy, is dealing with two pretty terrible parents..  He's abused, he's neglected and all of the trauma pours over into his mental health.  He and his only friend, Ted-O, like to escape by playing in the woods, until the day Makwa murders a schoolmate.  It's a shocking and unexpected moment that leaves you considering whether to blame nature or nurture.  After covering up the crime, t...

Top 5 Love Scenes // Little Fish // The Mauritanian // Rams

February 22, 2021 06:00 - 1 hour - 121 MB

Valentine's Day is just behind us, but we're still feeling a little swoony and amorous. That's why our next episode is going to be dedicated to those movie moments that make us feel all tingly and gushy inside, with our picks for the top 5 love scenes in movie history. Maybe they're as sweet as a first kiss on a spring day; maybe they're as hot and steamy as the lead-up to a round of athletic screwing; maybe they involve very prim Brits in seventeen layers of clothing finding the moral stren...

Little Fish Interview: with Chad Hartigan

February 15, 2021 23:00 - 21 minutes - 30 MB

You've probably never heard of Little Fish and that's a real problem.  It's like when you hear some 14 year old, who is also an Inta-Snap-Tic-Tac-Toe influencer, makes bazillions of dollars singing auto-tuned rhymes, while the actual musical geniuses are eating ramen and playing at dive bars in Chicago. I'll get this out of the way first, the "will love prevail in the face of imminent disaster?" trope has my name all over it It worked for me in Eternal Sunshine, and Perfect Sense and it...

Mother Schmuckers Interview: Lenny and Harpo Guit

February 15, 2021 22:54 - 19 minutes - 27 MB

I'll put my hand on the bible right now and tell you right now that Mother Schmuckers will be the weirdest movie you'll see all year.  Weirder than The Holy Mountain. Well, maybe equally weird but in such different ways.  There's fecal consumption and bestiality and plenty of unshaven-body nudity.  What am I even saying, it's exactly The Holy Mountain. I'm going to plagiarize the Sundance's synopsis of Mother Schmuckersbecause frankly, I have no idea what I saw Two low-down, rotten brot...

Raspberry (Short) Interview: Raymond Lee and Julian Doan

February 15, 2021 01:10 - 31 minutes - 42.8 MB

In the chaos of Sundance we had about 10 minutes to spare.  Luckily Raspberry was just 7 breezy minutes between me and snagging some lunch. At minute 1 my eyes were quickly pooling with water, by minute 2 I had tears streaming down my face, by minute 3 I was laughing, at minute 4 I was laughing through sobs, coming in at minute 5 I was audibly crying and sucking back nose drool, rolling on to minute 6 I was in shock and by the final minute I had a tension headache. Raspberry is a film you ...

Cowboys Interview with Steve Zahn, Jillian Bell, Sasha Knight & Anna Kerrigan

February 12, 2021 22:58 - 30 minutes - 41.9 MB

I'm going to tag this post as #journalingforwellness and #freetherpy and hope that you don't throw rotten tomatoes at me as a traverse my feelings on Cowboys.  The last few years has forced me to grapple with some hard truths about myself.  I've spent the majority of my life thinking that I was "good" just because I don't care what you look like, who who love or how you live your life.  But that complacency has made me so terribly ignorant. Somehow I thought I was "better" because I didn't...

Jockey Interview: with Clifton Collins Jr., Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar

February 09, 2021 00:42 - 40 minutes - 55.8 MB

Jockey didn’t make my most anticipated list of Sundance, because frankly, horse movies usually depress me.  The horse always gets injured or dies or gets injured and then dies and who amongst us really needs that kind of heartbreak right now? Well shame on me for judging In a surprising turn, I don’t even really remember much about a horse in Jockey.  I mean, there definitely is a horse and there is definitely horse racing but the tragedy is wrapped up in the self-destructive addiction t...

Best Films of Sundance 2021

February 08, 2021 06:00 - 1 hour - 127 MB

Well, Sundance is over and we're all breathing a collective sigh of exhausted relief. Over the course of 5 days, we cumulatively watched over 50 features and shorts.  While our experiences were wildly different, with Tim watching at least 7 films a day and cranking out reviews, while Rob and I averaged 3-4 films a day and stressed about prepping for interviews.  On this episode we talk about some of the highs and lows of Sundance and our varied perspectives on the best movies.  There was c...

Eight for Silver Interview: with Boyd Holbrook, Alistair Petrie and Sean Ellis

February 03, 2021 23:38 - 1 hour - 108 MB

Eight for Silver made the Most Anticipated Movies of Sundance lists for both Rob AND Tim.  Despite our often differing tastes, there are still through lines that connect us.  For this film, “extreme violence and gore,” meets werewolves, was all they needed to know. I’ll tell you my worry, for this Eight For Silver interview For starters, Boyd Holbrook and Alistair Petrie.  These two edgy bad-guys top my list of favorites. I loved Holbrook in Logan and Petrie in Rogue One, but with my pe...

Try Harder! with Filmmaker Debbie Lum

February 02, 2021 18:03 - 26 minutes - 35.9 MB

While the experience of the students at Lowell High School is many standard deviations from my own, its exploration is an empathy trip, nevertheless.  The college application process has become increasingly rigorous and the competition for top tier schools is tight.  The teens in Try Harder! have centered their entire high school experience around joining the “right” clubs, making the “correct” connections and constantly seeking perfection in the name of “Stanford”.  Granted, Lowell kids are...

Robin Wright and Team Endure Elements To Make 'Land' [Exclusive Interview]

February 02, 2021 03:22 - 26 minutes - 36.2 MB

From sleeping amongst the wildlife to building set pieces from scratch, Robin Wright went all in on Land Robin Wright hasn't done many interviews on her new film Land. We know, because we googled like crazy to capture a glimpse of her, in an effort to baseline our conversational expectations.  So why us, we thought?  We're not professional interviewers, by any stretch, and we're not exactly People magazine.  The truth is, our chat with Wright about her directorial debut, Land, will forever...
