There is no denying that western medicine has its importance when it comes to dealing with major illnesses, but there is a huge disconnect in our world when it comes to taking care of ourselves in between doctor appointments. The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes continues to rise, and we need to take action of our health instead of relying on medication, which doesn’t come without many side effects that we need to be aware of. Today’s guest is very passionate about helping others create a plan to stay on top of their own health.
Mary Yuter worked as a cardiac ICU nurse in New York City for 13 years. Mary wrote her book Heart to Soul Cardiac Wellness as if she was having a heart-to-heart conversation with you. As a nurse, Mary saw the need to provide people with more practical, holistic health and wellness information to apply in their daily life, complementing their doctors’ medical plan, in order to maximize their overall health possibilities.
In this episode, Mary dives into the topic that so many people are sick due to their bodies being out of homeostasis, and what we can do live a vibrant life instead of just existing. Although our genetics can play a factor in the diseases we may be prone to, we have control over our habits and environment and need to take charge of our health.
Key highlights:
Our body isn't sick from a medicine deficiency, it is sick from not being in homeostasis due to environmental factors, foods, and toxic pollutants. Disease processes start when our body can't keep upWhat clues inflammation can give us and what its purpose isThe number one thing that we can give up to reduce inflammationThe problem with western medicine is we don't go to the doctor until we’re sick. What about before that? The problems with high sugar intake that no one talks aboutBelly breathing and how it activities our rest and digest nervous systemMary walks us through a breath work practice to center and ground yourselfQuote from the episode:
