Today I want to talk to you about the differences between how we set goals as a dieter, versus how we set goals with intuitive eating and body image work. Because I could imagine, for some of you, this is actually what’s holding you back and keeping you stuck- unable to truly move into your intuitive eating journey.

Setting goals as a dieter tends to be short term and weight or appearance based. Even if it is health related, it tends to have a weight equals health approach, and still comes back to weight loss.

Yet I find that setting goals as a dieter rarely leads people to actually feeling as if they’ve created sustainable health habits that stick. Rarely do people create health habits that they will have for the rest of their lives through dieting. Honestly, I find dieting tends to do the exact opposite.

It tends to make people hate eating vegetables because they force themselves to eat only raw carrots and steamed, unflavored broccoli. So they think that all vegetables lack flavor. Dieting tends to make people never want to exercise, because when they forced themselves to exercise as a dieter it was from a perspective of punishment for what they ate, not for pleasure and enjoyment of moving the body.

If this resonates then listen to today’s episode to learn the differences between goals as a dieter versus goals as an intuitive eater. You’ll learn about how the destination needs to feel like the journey, how to set long term health goals, habit formation instead of goal setting and avoiding perfectionist planning.

In today’s episode I reference this episode from Kara’s podcast, Unf*ck Your Brain and you can also hear her on the podcast here.

Today’s episode is brought to you by our signature program, Food and Body Peace Playbook (FBPP). FBPP is an 8 week online course & group coaching program that will help you build lasting food freedom, better body image & sustainable health habits that stick.

If you're ready to stop dieting forever and make peace with food and your body I’d love to see you as one of the 20 spots inside the program when it opens for January. That means you can start off 2022 making the decision to say NO to diets that don’t work and YES to intuitive eating and a lifetime of treating your body well.
