Episode 66. “Sometime the things that we thought are good for us may not be good in the long term. Those are the moments when those things are happening (and) you will feel catastrophic loss and all those kind of things. Then later on if you look back, you say, “Oh, that wasn't good for me and it's a blessing that I came out of it, better and wiser.”

Dr. Rehnuma Karim grew up in Bangladesh and majored in Economics but decided to change her track when she came to pursue her Ph.D in the field of Environment and Leisure Studies at Penn State.

She was a full time faculty at SUNY Brockport but after 2015, she became an adjunct faculty and started her own non-profit, Heroes for All, both in NY and in Bangladesh.

She is also co-host of the Limitless Leadership Lounge Podcast and is working on a book with Coach Jim Johnson.

Dr. Karim shares her heroes journey with Linda:

- “I’m watching this movie, Batman, when Batman was saying “What do I do? I cannot rise. Why do we fall?" And then Alfred says, “We fall because the universe wants to see how you rise again.”  It just resonated.

- “I think faith really helped me so I knew that no matter what, everything happens for a reason and I will be coming out of it. So usually faith, family, and friends. And when you have a meaning to what you are doing, that is what can lift you up.”

- “There were neighbors who would come to my mom and complain. It looks odd, a girl hanging around and playing in the streets. But my mom and dad, they were very progressive, especially my dad. He said that it's her life. I don't see her as a girl or a boy. She's a human and she can do whatever she loves to do.”

 - “My dissertation was on acid attack victims, victims who were thrown acid at their face and how they even coped after such a tragedy. When I was doing the interview, I found out those girls are filled with life and some of them were saying that they knew more about life after the tragedy happened. And if it didn't happen, they wouldn't know that they had the power to make a difference.”
