This week’s episode comes from a recent LinkedIn newsletter I wrote, and it got such a great response that I wanted to share it with all of you here!
Without a doubt, one of the biggest things holding people back from living is fear.
Fear freezes a person. It throws us back into a state of second-guessing ourselves. We don’t take action steps out of fear. What if something happens? What if I don’t make the right choice?
What if…what if…what if…
I’ve had a lot of practice with fear.
Fear of rejection. Fear of failure. Fear of divorce. Fear of being alone. Fear of being too much. Fear of being too little. Fear of writing. Fear of speaking… And here I am.
What’s the opposite of not living? Living with regret.
OUCH.
I will not leave this earth with regret.
You see, I view fear as a practice. It’s a practice of choosing ourselves over self-doubts, limiting beliefs, and others’ stories and patterns that we have carried.
Sure, fear can protect you from harm and give you an inclination that “something is not right.” And yet, if addressed correctly, it can teach you more about yourself than you ever imagined.
For example, I never imagined myself standing on a TEDx stage, speaking about forgiveness. That’s a story I in this episode.
It’s pretty funny, actually. I didn’t know that I was doing a TEDx talk. It scared the hell out of me when I found out that I was. And, what was my alternative? There wasn’t an alternative. I just did it.
In this episode, I share a few of my (not-so-secret) secrets to the art of fear. Let’s go!
