Jennifer was in an unhappy marriage. She decided to end the marriage, but then discovered she didn’t have the courage to do so. The next few years, Jennifer felt stuck, and stopped caring about life. She engaged in self destructive habits and felt as though there was no hope. Jennifer stumbled across some blogs about minimalism, which was a new concept for her. Jennifer let go of everything she spent a decade building, including possessions, and her husband. This led her to a wonderful new life.

Q & A

Why do you think self love is so important?

Without a doubt, self love is important because, for me, when I don’t take care of myself, I don’t care about anything else. I don’t care about other people, I don’t care about my life.

When you feel good about yourself, you can help everyone. You are capable.

What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love?

A lot of it is, I used to have a real bizarre attitude about weakness, and what it means to be strong.

Who is one person who has changed your life for the better?

My husband. He is somebody who really finds joy in experiences and life and doing things.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Live below your means.

What is a self care habit that you practice regularly?

Besides journaling, walking.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“Listen to your heart. Do more of what you love. Let go of all the rest.”

Can you share with us a resource or an app that we can use to help our own self care practice grow?

I’ve been meditating on and off for the past year. The app that helped me the most is called Headspace. They have a free 10 day introduction. I also use Simply Being, which is a free app.

What book are you reading right now?

The Art of Asking, by Amanda Palmer.

What is the one thing that you are most passionate about?

Living in freedom. We have a lot more freedom in our lives than we think we do. We just have to take that power on board. We all have the ability to create our lives the way we want to.
