to go Dutch

= each person pays his or her own way, for their own food, movie tickets, etc. (Note: The origins of this expression date back to relations between the England and the Netherlands (Holland, Dutch culture). But the origins are NOT important and almost nobody knows why it is called “to go Dutch.” Students just need to remember the expression as a set phrase.)
