both men and women. Especially when talking about men, avoid

the adjective “handsome.” Instead, an expression such as “He is really

good-looking” is much more natural and commonly-used.)

= to have a sense of humor, making other people laugh



to be hilarious = to be very funny



to be confident in (one’s) skin

= to be confident in oneself, to have confidence （自信）



to go Dutch

= each person pays his or her own way, for their own food, movie tickets, etc. (Note: The origins of this expression date back to relations between the England and the Netherlands (Holland, Dutch culture). But the origins are NOT important and almost nobody knows why it is called “to go Dutch.” Students just need to remember the expression as a set phrase.)

= 一目ぼれ

= an expression translated from the Thai language
