Global Pause - Rethink the Future

278 episodes - English - Latest episode: 5 months ago -

We are consumers of life not its co-creators, so we are just givens. We are given credit for our wants and thats it. We consume our time as an economic good to no end. To see beyond the consumer is to see potential for change that would not just add value to the buyers journey called life, but unmarket it.

November 12, 2020 23:30 - 17 minutes - 16.1 MB

We look to reframe the question of justice from the marginality of our time when we receive it as an economic good. The indivisibility of time is compromised through the way of life we presuppose through our unquestioning acceptance.

#22: Rethinking the "good" of want

November 09, 2020 22:19 - 22 minutes - 20.7 MB

We look at the primacy of want when we define our agency according to it. How does the claim towards life  work through what we presuppose, do we in fact consume our want as our way rather than create a way of removing it.

#21: Rethinking the possibility for democracy

November 08, 2020 17:23 - 17 minutes - 15.6 MB

When we think of democracy we invariably think of governmental organisation but is there another way to think its potential? We pose this question in light of the creativity we do not animate when market oriented, and the individuation of "life" this entails that disempowers the "demos" of self rule.

#20: Rethinking afterlife sabbath retirement supplement

October 30, 2020 16:02 - 20 minutes - 18.8 MB

We rethink our way of life by looking at the 7 days of creation as the model for our working week. We consider this in light of the potential nested within the supplement of time we reserve for ourselves that has direct correlations with "redemptive" understanding of time.

#19: Rethinking learning money

October 24, 2020 20:54 - 16 minutes - 15.1 MB

Money is a given, and so we give money to our children to learn. What is put into play when the sheer claim of money has on our temporality is not given with this lesson? October 11, 2020 05:22 - 21 minutes - 20.1 MB

What do we make living when we are intent on making a living? We explore this question in light of the disavowed Utopianism of our market oriented way of life that makes our striving for life not as clear as what it would appear at 1st glance.

#16: Rethinking monies removal

October 04, 2020 09:20 - 18 minutes - 17.3 MB

When our time is made marginal by becoming accountable through the use of money we create the grounds for its presupposition. It's continual development to the point of its virtualisation, or democratisation in peer-to-peer forms offers nothing in the way of this surpassing. We look at this from monies potential removal our praxis facilitates when we no longer accept our time equals it.

#15: Rethinking loyalty to our way of life

September 27, 2020 21:42 - 19 minutes - 17.7 MB

We are loyal to our way of life, we accept our way of doing things such that our loyalty is given without questioning why? Why are we loyal to a way of life that takes as a given a reduction in our agency and creativity, why accept passivity, cynicism, and the ills of our way of life when what is possible to us to create remains open. We explore these themes in the latest episode.

#14: Rethinking money & goodwill

September 20, 2020 21:34 - 19 minutes - 17.6 MB

Goodwill is an intangible, for a new way of giving and receiving to occur this "asset" must be released from the balance sheet of civilisation. We see this happening as a necessity, as the use of money inhibits the circulation of this good to animate the creation of a world that is not given with its use.

#13: Rethinking the possibility for art

September 13, 2020 21:07 - 25 minutes - 23.6 MB

If to be market oriented means to be a consumer, then we are primarily a product or commodity of our way of life. We look at the possibility for art in light of surpassing this reduction. For it is only through an artful way of giving and receiving ourselves will the possibility for art be given like a commodity is today.

#12: Rethinking cynicism & thought crime

August 31, 2020 20:33 - 25 minutes - 23.2 MB

Possibility always has context from which it arises. What is considered possible invariably is entertained as a "thought crime" from the prevailing world view. If our context is a "market oriented way of life" what thought crime must be entertained to overcome the pervasive cynicism our way of life engenders.  To entertain being at odds with what is currently given does not involve senseless violence but rather how we play host to a disease we take exception to.  It always must come back to ...

#11: Rethinking the "want of self" the market maintains

August 16, 2020 04:18 - 21 minutes - 19.7 MB

To be market oriented is to accept the"want of self" as an unquestioned given, as this orientation reduces the scope of ones agency. We look at how "enterprising the good" overcomes this impoverishment by harnessing creativity beyond the model of the good life that is touted and secured against "the they", to potentialise the they as the means of surpassing this want that is currently accepted as a given.

#10: Rethinking what we value in light of gratitude

August 03, 2020 07:36 - 22 minutes - 20.2 MB

To value what is otherwise made secondary or subordinate to our time is critical if we are to animate a new way of doing things. We relook at what we can value in light of a gratitude possible when the exception to an exchange occurs. To give thanks is to move beyond cynicism and reflect upon absence to see what is possible to us now.

#9: Rethinking our market orientated way of life

July 20, 2020 08:57 - 22 minutes - 21 MB

A market orientated way of life, begs the question exactly what it is we are orientated to! If we say we are orientated to the satisfaction of our wants then we conceal from ourselves what is at issue in this orientation as time underwrites all exchanges, or all satisfaction of our wants. Where is this orientation to our time? Where is the market for our time when we secure it as a supplement or economic good? We take a closer look at this issue to reveal the civilisational impasse we are gr...

#8: Rethinking rationing through the exception

July 06, 2020 08:48 - 31 minutes - 28.8 MB

We explore how the exception can weave itself into commercial activity potentialising both consumption and production through the culture that emerges outside the market. This new way of cooperating rations the potential of the exception occurring through the acts of people whom give their time to nurture the very culture that makes this possible. What occurs is the incremental un-marketing that enables us to give and receive in an entirely different way.

#7: Rethinking possibility in light of overcoming cynicism

June 22, 2020 06:44 - 25 minutes - 23.1 MB

As values are contested in "the market" any transvaluation of values needs to be engendered in this arena of human activity. Yet how can the latent creativity be potentialised when "marketing" & "branding" is the language used. How can we elude the accusation of seeing every offering as just another way to sell our arses. We approach the question of cynicism through the exception and how the circuit breaker enables us to get over ourselves to start to animate creation, rather than accepting ...

#6: Rethinking choice in light of the potential latent within our commerce

June 12, 2020 08:07 - 17 minutes - 16.5 MB

We start to tease out the potential that is open to us. We do this by looking at the nature of the exceptions we make when making decisions according to our values exemplified in "conscious consumption". We see this trend as harnessing the latent agency though not to the degree necessary to initiate the emergence of a new way of life from the holding pattern of consumerism and relating to each other through our wants.

#5: Rethinking want and the self

May 31, 2020 06:49 - 21 minutes - 19.5 MB

When time equals money we ensure want persists irrespective of whether we glory in the signs of our supposed transcendence wealth comes to symbolise. We can only approximate the sovereignty we seek to emulate as we do not create through making an exception to a way of life that make our temporality a thing and so perpetuates the holding pattern of consumption where we consume the want of this self, through the visions we entertain.

#4: Rethinking the model of consumption

May 26, 2020 12:45 - 21 minutes - 19.5 MB

April 22, 2020 05:04 - 14 minutes - 19.6 MB

To understand how a market orientated way of life has created a holding pattern of consumption we need to unearth unquestioned givens of our way of life. We set out to rethink economic exchanges we enter into every single day to reveal "the good" that inadvertently keeps us beholden to the limitations & ills of this way of life.
