Continuing our songwriting series, we’re taking a look at Lyrics & Harmony. We’ve been talking about songwriting inside the box, and to a set of guidelines that make sure we’re finishing our songs and connecting with our audience.

Make sure you download my free song writing guide, which follows along with this series, and sets up a songwriting template that you can work within. Download link here - https://www.dottedeight.com/artist

Lyrics are the most important part of our songs for a lot of our listeners. Some listeners are only listening to songs for their lyrics. Some of us love the music and the lyrics are a bonus, But we want to make sure our lyrics are firmly carrying our story so that our audience can get on our journey and connect with our music. In this episode I chat about what lyric content your different sections should have, as well as a few tips around effective lyric writing.

I also have a look at harmony. Harmony is two or more notes playing together, so for the most part, this is our chords. We can get so hung up on chords, and place unnecessary weight on them being unique and creative. For me, the role of a chord progression is really to make the melody sound amazing, they are a supporting role to the lead, (the melody) I have a quick look at where we can use different chords, and touch on where chords are providing different tensions.
