Hello and welcome to episode 20 of Ditch The Small Talk. My name is Denean and this is a weekly podcast, where I speak to people about their mental health. Well! This week has been an absolute scorcher. I don’t know about you but I’m done with this unbearable weather. Summer is great because of the long days and the vibe in London. There’s nothing like it. Especially with the football being on and England doing surprisingly well. BUT, this heat is a nightmare for my hair, transport options (the tube really puts my deodorant to the test) and just my overall comfort. Am I the only one that loves Spring and Autumn the best? Those seasons are my favourite, I feel that I’m always on the cusp of something good. When Autumn comes around, I know that we’re closer to Christmas (which means some rest from work and downtime with family and friends). Tbough I know that’s not true for everyone. And Spring! Oh Spring! The cherry blossoms in London, the days beginning to get longer and BBQS!!!!! But I can’t complain. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to March with the historical palaces group as part of the London Pride parade. Luckily, I managed to find some shade to hide under, so my worries about collapsing were assuaged and it was fantastic to see so many people happy and excited to celebrate the LGBTQIA community and I feel honoured to be a part of it. Talking of getting out of the house, my guest this week is William Pullen. William is a psychotherapist, who a few years ago, changed his life and now specialises in something called Dynamic Running Therapy, which combines mindfulness, running and talk therapy. He also has a book called “Running with Mindfulness” (I’ll add the link in the bio). We spoke about how he got into practising as a psychotherapist and he became a specialist in dynamic running therapy, how keeping active is important to him and what he would like to see change about the way we treat mental health in the next few years.
