Araby is the first story in a collection of short stories called Dubliners, by James Joyce. This is a poignant tale of a young boy's infatuation with a neighbour girl, and how he eventually comes to see the truth of it. Digging deeper, I believe this is a story about losing faith in the church, as Joyce often battled with himself and subsequently wrote about. Either way you look at it, its rich language and evocative descriptions will bring you back to Dublin in the 1880s.
