In this episode, Michael and I discuss the importance and necessity of awareness.  We chat about what it is like being a WINNING Indy 500 mechanic, a US Navy Vetran and how it all plays a vital role in High Performance Coaching.

As early as second-grade, Michael had a fondness for helping others, in this
case by taking three or four of his classmates that were struggling with
learning to read and giving them peer-to-peer mentorship and instruction.
During his time serving in the US Navy, that desire to assist others
resurfaced. This time it was instructing shipmates, both Officer and Enlisted,
on how to operate an 86,000 HP Main Propulsion plant and a 6000 kw
Electric plant on US Navy Destroyer.
After the Navy, Michael spent five years doing a startup of a multi-unit
Geothermal Power plant in California where he aided in the creation and
implementation of operating and training procedures.
During that time, his drive to work took him past a quarter-mile dirt track
that became his introduction to local stock car racing. He and neighbour
purchased a gutted bucket of bolts Ford Pinto and spent a year turning it into
a race car. As the owner driver, he won a feature, a trophy dash and earned
fifth-place in the championship in his first and only year of completion.
That backwoods foray into racing led to a motorsport career that spanned 20
years, 14 of those as a mechanic and pit crew member, with the highlights
being an Overall Victory at the 2008 12-Hours of Sebring and winning the
2009 Indianapolis 500. The last six years were spent as a Public Relations
Manager for Team Penske. Two with the INDYCAR team, two with the
NASCAR Xfinity team and two with the NASCAR Cup team.
Over the course of his life, people would seek Michael out for advice, counsel
or a pep talk. Numerous people told him that he should be a coach, a
motivational speaker and that he should write a book.
In 2015, he took that advice to heart. He found the best coaching
certification program he could, Certified High Performance Coaching which is
founded and accredited by the High Performance Institute. That year he
became one of only 300 Certified High Performance Coaches in the world.
At the end of 2015, Michael took a huge leap of faith, by leaving a great
career in racing to follow what had been chasing him all along, a calling to be
a Performance Driven Coach.
In the first few years of his practice, Michael’s High Performance Coaching
clients have included racing drivers, technical directors and engineers as well

as business owners, MBAs, On-Air Media members, authors, fitness coaches,
marketing professionals and developers. The most fascinating part of this
story is in progress as this is just the beginning and the best is yet to come.
