Today I'm talking with Suzy Bashford about creativity and being your own superhero!

Suzy is a writer, workshop facilitator and speaker podcaster based in the awesome Scottish Highlands, where she lives with her husband, 2 wee boys and Staffy dog Bramble. Mental health is a specialist subject of her work: she writes regularly for Psychologies magazine, has worked on marketing campaigns for the Mental Health Foundation and is professionally trained in delivering work shops in emotional intelligence and stress management. Suzy has also done talks on her own mental health journey from zero to superhero.

Suzy lives a big juicy creative life here in the Highlands, but it wasn’t always this way and she wasn’t always this happy – in fact 12 years ago Suzy was hospitalised in a mother and baby unit with severe depression after my first son. That’s how bleak it was. It’s taken concerted effort, big decisions and a recognition that her mental health needs consistent nurturing to get to where she is today (mentally and geographically!). And of course, although yes – wild swimming, mountain biking and long walks in spectacular nature are now a part of her normal week – life isn’t always perfect here, either. (But you knew that already, whatever Instagram says, didn’t you?).

Nurturing creativity is a big part of thriving both personally and professionally. Which is why Suzy has recently set up her company called Big Juicy Creative, which is all about approaching work briefs with a big dollop of big, juicy creativity. Suzy has also just launched a podcast called Big Juicy Creativity to inspire listeners (and herself!) with ideas on how to nurture a creative mindset towards life. For Suzy, this is key to riding the waves and enjoying the sail, whatever the weather.
