Summary
The training contract is often seen by law students and graduates as the holy grail, but what is it that you are actually signing up for. Well, it could be argued that you are signing up to work the next 40 years in your chosen specialism. Hmmm, doesn't sound quite as exciting put that way. The training contract is just the beginning of that journey so it is crucial that you make the right decision which provides you solid foundations to build on in the future. You wouldn't buy a house just because you liked the colour of the door so don't accept a training contract just because it is your first offer or it pays the highest. Think beyond just getting your foot in the door.

Act now! Make a difference!
A wise old man once told me "it is what you do right now which makes the difference," so what are you waiting for? Culture is key so reach out to a lawyer that you know, maybe a family friend or even a LinkedIn connection, and ask them to share their experiences about culture in the legal profession.
