Summary
Lawyers don't do sales!

Having left a graduate sales role to study law, I was under the misconception that I was studying to be a lawyer; however, what I was actually doing was studying to ultimately sell legal services. It is common for partners and senior solicitors to spend a large proportion of their time generating leads and winning business. With this in mind, why is "sales" such a dirty word in the legal industry and why is little to no emphasis placed on developing junior lawyers' sales skills.

I am very excited to be joined by Richard Barker, Employment Partner at Mills and Reeve, to provide his insight, including how to navigate awkward networking events, the importance of developing a broad professional network and the benefit of up skilling your sales skills as a junior lawyer.

Act now! Make a difference!

You've Been Served has a challenge for you! As Richard says "people buy people" so next time you are at a networking event, be it a meet and greet with a firm or a corporate event, don't go in for the hard sell. In fact don't talk about what you do at all. Try and build longer lasting professional relationships through general conversation. Just be yourself!
