Building Relationships with Students and Families  Building relationships with parents is one of the most important things to do during the first week of school. This sets the tone and flow of the year as we think about partnerships and good working relationships. One of the first things you have to do is establish good two-way communication. It is important for families and educators to have good open communication for the success of students.  Research shows that the more parents and educators share relevant information with each other about a student, the better equipped the student is to feel supported.

As you are thinking about building relationships it is also important for you to know and understand the community that you work in. It is very important to see the assets in the community and work to add value to your community. In an effort to help you understand why student and community asset mapping are important, you first have to know how to do the process of asset mapping.
