What would it mean to a soldier to be sent into battle unarmed- The good soldier of God must have confidence and competence in God's Word in order to stand in the battle. The Helmet of Salvation

Christians are strengthened by God to stand in the battle by the knowledge of our salvation in which we have been saved from the penalty of sin, we are being saved from the power of sin, and we will be saved from the presence of sin.

The Shield of Faith

Christians are strengthened to stand in the spiritual battle by exercising and increasing their faith through obedience and the spiritual disciplines.

The Readiness of the Gospel

Believers stand firmly in the battle motivated by the good news of peace with God through salvation in Jesus Christ.

Presenting the King

Jesus began his final week of ministry by purposefully presenting himself as the Messiah, the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies that a king would come from the line of David to rule over Israel righteously and eternally. This presentation requires a response.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

What does Paul mean by the -Breastplate of Righteousness.- - What kind of righteousness can protect us from the schemes of the devil- The righteousness of Jesus Christ that covers the believer, and the righteous deeds of that believer that bear witness to that covering offer vital protection from the schemes of the devil.

The Belt of Truth

The soldier's belt was a tightly fitted central piece of armor that kept loose clothing from hampering progress and held the breastplate in place. Paul suggests this relates to truth. But what does Paul mean by truth- The first thing a Christian needs in order to be effective in spiritual warfare is a thorough understanding of the gospel as revealed in God's Word.

The Soldiers and Their Strategy

Every Christian is called into a battle that is in many ways more real than the earthly battles of blood, sweat, and dirt. The stakes are higher and the enemy stronger and more cunning than any human foe. Therefore God calls the Christian to stand in the very strength of God himself who raised Jesus Christ from the dead and seated him at the right hand of power in the heavenly places. Nothing less will stand in the battle.

Put on Your Armor and Stand

God has always worked through believers who strive with Him in the battle. His soldiers are not passive participants in the war, but motivated and proactive zealots who seek for God's glory. Through prayer and the Word of God, Christians must deliberately seek to understand truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, and salvation in order to successfully stand in the spiritual battle.

The Enemy and the Battleground

The primary struggle for Christians is fought in the spiritual realm against unseen yet formidable opponents led by the devil, so believers must prepare themselves to stand and to fight.

Masters and Servants

Christians should submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and serve his interests in the workplace whether slave or master, employee or employer, vendor or customer.
