On the podcast this week we have Jenee Chizick Aguero, the founder of ‘Motivos’ magazine <www.motivosmag.com/> which is the largest bilingual magazine in the country.
Jenee began her publishing career at just nine years old working as a newspaper carrier in her local neighborhood. She studied Biology for her undergraduate degree, which seems like worlds away from her current position in business and publishing.
She launched her own company in 2006, and she was featured on NBC, ABC, and Univision in both Mexico and the United States. Motivos magazine focuses on giving Latino youth a voice and inspires them to explore their full potential, keep on track for college and investigate possible career options.
Jenee has impacted the lives of over 40,000 students, prompting ABC to dub her as the nation's ‘dream weaver’ – an honorable title and one that Jenee strives to live up to.
In this episode, Jenee and I discussed:
Jenee’s inspiring journey from delivering newspapers to becoming the founder of the country’s most successful bilingual magazine for teens and young people How inspired she is by her students, especially the introverts. How it feels to help young people when they’re making big decisions that can really influence their future The importance of encouraging young people to talk about things that matter to them and showing that you support their dreams and goals What you can do as a parent of a teenager to make them feel listened to, understood and appreciated How Jenee’s role of a mentor transitions to ‘coach’ when helping students discover possible career paths How to get young people to open up and speak freely without fear of rejection or abandonment How Jenee measures the success of her program
