You’ve seen the signs at coffee shops and delis: minimum credit card charge: $10.

You’ve also likely been informed by hairdressers, gas stations and doctors’ offices that you’re able to use your credit card, but doing so will be accompanied by an X% ‘convenience’ fee. (Super convenient, right?)

Why?

Because using credit cards is expensive for merchants.

It is so expensive, in fact, that purchases under $10 aren’t worth the trouble.

Up until now this has created a barrier, both online and off, to micropayments – transactions so small that they can even be a fraction of a cent.

Today we’re speaking with Sushil Prabhu founder and CEO of Dropp, about his revolutionary micropayment platform, the world’s first cost-effective digital micropayment transaction platform enabling payments both in $USD and crypto-currency.

Topics discussed include:

How Dropp is able to provide merchants with significantly lower transaction costs than credit card companies.
Why Dropp is building their business by focusing on merchants first.
How the impact of open source technology served as the inspired the creation of Dropp.
Why lowering the barrier to entry, inherent in the advertising and subscription business models, will spur innovation and growth.
How Dropp maintains consumer privacy while simultaneously providing merchants with an opportunity for deeper engagement .

Sushil Prabhu has been a technology leader, innovator, and entrepreneur for the past 30 years. He has been the CEO of OpenCrowd for the past 16 years and is now the CEO of Dropp. As CEO of OpenCrowd, Sushil dedicated a significant amount of time consulting his clients on ways to best leverage advanced technologies to produce economic results.

Sushil played a critical role in growing the company to over 2,000 employees in less than three years, growing to an $8 billion market cap; this resulted in Scient becoming the fastest growing internet professional services company of the 1990s. Sushil was also responsible for architecting one of the earliest internet-based Peer-to-Peer payment systems for a top global retail bank. Before Scient, Sushil was Director of Technology for Cambridge Technology Partners (CTP), the most successful Client-Server, Fixed- Time, Fixed-Price Services company in the 1990s.
