If we look at the Word of God in the Book of Romans, Chapter 7 and verse 12, the Word of God tells us very clearly:
“Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.”
What does that mean?
It means we must obey the law.
We must obey the authorities that have been put in place.
Why? Because if we break the law it is a sin and when you break the law then you have no blessing of God over your life.
I just feel very strongly in my heart today that many of us are frustrated.
We are getting tired of the lockdown.
We are getting tired of all the laws we have to obey.
And none of us is without exception in that area.
But the law has been put there for our own good.
That is why we have a speed limit.
That is why we need to pay our income tax because otherwise, every man becomes a law unto himself, and then we are facing a chaotic situation.
I remember so clearly being asked to speak at a panel, a farmer’s panel in the Eastern Cape many years ago.
Now speaking on a panel is not my strength, I can tell you right now and I was quite nervous.

There was a hall full of farmers and they were asking some very pertinent questions. This was many years ago.
And the one farmer was quiet angry and he stood up and he said to me, “Is it lawful to pay taxes to a government that I do not believe in?”
The hall went quiet and I really did not know what to say.
He actually pointed the question at me and I cried out to The Holy Spirit and I said, “Lord, give me an answer please.”
And then I remembered the story that Jesus spoke of in the Book of Matthew and it was the story of the Pharisees who tried to trick Jesus. They said, “Is it lawful to pay taxes to the Roman government?”
And Jesus knew what they were trying to do.
They were trying to catch Him out.
He said, “Bring me a coin.”
They brought Him a coin and He said, “Whose head is on that coin?”
They said, “Caesar’s head is on that coin “
And He said, “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s”.
And I said to the farmer standing up there, I said, “Do you have a ten rand note in your wallet?”
He said, “Yes”
I said, “Can you bring it to me please.”
I said, “Whose name is on that note?”
He said, “The South African Government”
So I said, “Well, you better pay your taxes which are due to you to the South African Government.”
We really need to obey the law, not for the law’s sake, but for God’s sake and eventually and ultimately for our own sake.
God did not put the law there for Himself. He put it there for us.
