The Books

The Fletcher Babysits Series

These books are aimed at 4–8-year-olds.

There are three books in the series so far:

Book 1: Fletcher Babysits a Crocodile

This is an endearing story of Fletcher’s encounter with a baby crocodile that was causing some grief to some nearby neighbours who had just bought the croc. I have to say the adventures here are fun as Fletcher tries to unravel what’s up with this very playful young creature. The answer is simple, feed it!

Sam Thomas’ illustration are bright, eye-catching and fun.

At the end of the book are some fun facts about crocodiles and crossword puzzle for children to do.

Book 2: Fletcher Babysits a Goat

This delightful story of another of young Fletcher’s adventures involves a trip to a farm on Tasmania where an unruly prize-winning goat is giving the farm owners the run around destroying everything in its path. Exasperated they call on Fletcher to sort the mischievous little goat out. At first Fletcher is perplexed as what to do and in fact is rather scared off the demanding goat, but he quickly realises that the goat is just bored and suggests the farmers get it lots of toys to play with and maybe a friend. With the issue resolved Fletcher collects is pocket money and goes home.

Like in all the books at the end Adrian gives children some fun facts about the animals in the story as well as a game for them to engage with. In this book there’s a word search. The book is beautifully supported by Sam Thomas’ magical illustrations.

Book 3: Fletcher Babysits a Camel

This is another wonderful story of Fletcher’s adventures. Fletcher is a young boy who loves looking after other people’s pets especially when he gets pocket money. In this book Fletcher gets a request to look after a baby camel with no expenses spared from the owners who turn out to be circus owners having problems with a rather boisterous baby camel. What’s exciting for Fletcher this time is that the adventure involves a flight to a far-off city. Fletcher is surprised at the destination but quickly adapts to his surroundings, he soon realises what the problem is and with an old shoe solves the issue before flying back home with a large amount of pocket money. Again, Sam Thomas’ bright and vivid illustrations bring a splash of colour to an adorable but simple story.

Like in all his books Adrian has at the end some fun facts and in this book an unscrambling of words to describe the scene.
