The Author

Mary Angela Allen is an American author from Carlsbad a small community town in the southeast region of the US state of New Mexico. When I looked at where Mary currently resides, I quickly realised that Carlsbad is the gateway to the Carlsbad Caverns National Park and for bat lovers this is a must visit place particularly at eventide when vast swarms of bats can be seen exiting the caves as they take to the night skies in search of food.

Born on the 16th of August 1952 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, Mary was the second of seven children, four boys and three girls, she’s married to Kelly and has two grown up sons Michael and Anthony. From an early age she developed a mature singing talent as a soprano and began to sing in local festivities and school functions. Mary won several talent contests in school and sang in variety shows in high school and college.

Mary went to Eastern New Mexico University where she was awarded a bachelor’s degree in Music Elementary Education, followed by a master’s in Reading Education. Mary went on to teach in several public schools in New Mexico for nigh on twenty-eight years.

While in college Mary relinquished her life to serve the Lord and began to sing in churches of various denominations as a means of expressing her adoration for God. Mary also joined the Carlsbad Community and Martin Luther King choirs.

The book, ‘Living the High Note’ was, like so many books written during the Covid Pandemic as authors with unprecedented time on their hands penned the next book. Mary was no exception to this impromptu forward planning strategy; thus, her book was born.

Mary continues to sing for the Lord, for her, her voice is an act of empowerment that enables her to have a close and lasting relationship with God no matter what path her life takes her on, albeit a righteous or not so righteous choice. Mary fervently believes she has a calling, and that God will always be by her side.

The Book

When, like myself you read Mary’s book you’ll quickly grasp that the story within is all about Mary’s own relationship with God at varying times throughout her life particularly around what she sees as ill-judged choices and equally at times of great rejoicing.

The book deals with everyday life and how Mary sees her relationship with her saviour at pivotal points on her journey on this planet. Mary views God as all encompassing, but to get the best of God’s undying love you must surrender to him. Mary admits in the book that at the time the Lord entered her being, her life, in her view was in chaos as her relationship with men which she covers off under ‘The Three Wells,’ reveals. Many of you will probably take the standpoint, well that’s just life! But for Mary quite the contrary, however she does accept that there were times in her life that she lived for the moments of fun albeit as she best puts it those flashes of delight were short lived. 

Living for God has made life more enjoyable, peaceful and purposeful for Mary, something that comes across very strongly in the book. The purpose of the book is showing others how God can have such a huge impact on our everyday lives, something Mary advocates to those around her always.
