Hi it’s Dr. Cary Yurkiw, DC and welcome to today’s Super Healthy Podcast. Today were talking about the flu and natural remedies to help with the flu.

The word flu comes from influenza and is a short version of the word. Influenza is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory passages causing fever aching coughing and can spread easily.

Recently the coronavirus has been in the media. The coronavirus is a group of RNA viruses that cause a variety of diseases in humans and other animals. RNA stands for ribonucleic acid which is a long single strand of chain of cells that processes protein.

Are any viruses actively modify host cell membranes to construct viral replication scaffolds. Some common RNA viruses are the herpes virus, rotavirus, hepatitis C virus, and the influenza virus to name a few.

To protect yourself from getting the flu a good idea is to wash your hands regularly. Stay away from people who are sick with the flu. If you have the flu stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or you can even wear a mask.

Some natural things you can do to help prevent the flu is to you get enough rest so your body’s immune system is strong. Also nutrition is important to give the body the right nutrients so it can be strong and healthy. Drinking a lot of liquids and eating a well-balanced diet is important to give the body the right nutrients. This includes eating lots of colourful vegetables and some fruits.  Healthy fats are important and some protein.

If you get the flu gargle with salt water. Honey is good for a sore throat and it works as a cough suppressant. Ginger helps with colds and flu‘s as an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. Garlic is a powerful antioxidant and anti-microbial which has antiviral and antibiotic properties. Garlic has many minerals, enzymes, vitamin C, sulphur and selenium. Probiotics are good because they give your immune system a boost. Bone broth or chicken stock is one of my favourites when someone is sick.   Make sure the chicken is from organic or free range sources.
