Dr Steve Miller is the Director of the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (AGBU) at the University of New England. AGBU works to understand how to breed better animals and plants using information on the genetics of individuals and animal populations. This can include everything from breeding desirable traits to managing disease susceptibility within lineages. AGBU makes these tools and services available to producers by working alongside industry and government agencies to improve Australia’s agricultural production. While AGBU specialises in studying animals like sheep, cattle and pigs, their staff and students have researched all kinds of livestock animals including crocodiles, oysters, ostriches, bees and more!
