In this week’s show, I set out my step by step guide to cold immersion and explain why the practice is so beneficial for our physical and mental wellbeing. The trappings of modern life have made us weaker and less willing to expose ourselves to discomfort so the idea of cold-water immersion can seem daunting. However, it is important to consider that if we are not prepared to face challenges our comfort zones will shrink and we will become less able to cope with the difficult situations that will inevitably arise in our lives. It really is true that adversity makes us stronger, and the goal of cold water immersion is to conquer adversity, overcome discomfort and feel empowered at the end of it. Cold water immersion has played a part in many cultures and religions and its reported health benefits include enhanced immune function, reduced inflammation, lowered body fat and blood sugar, improved sexual performance and fertility, better sleep quality, and improved thyroid health.
