Paul is joined by returning guest Ravi Nair to talk about what exactly a soulful leader is, as the pair of them are co-founders of an organisation called ‘Soulful Leaders’.

When I was growing up I used to play musical chairs and that game taught me that to win I had to knock somebody off their chair. As I grew up, I made some mistakes in my life. I was knowingly or unknowingly involved in playing politics because leadership was important to me. I think that happens to a lot of people when they are chasing a position or a title. Soulful leaders are different: Rather than being in charge of people it’s about how you work with people.
Everybody is a born leader, but over a period of time a transition happens, as an influence of the environment or the people around you, everybody tries to influence you with their own leadership styles. If something worked for somebody in their life they push it on you and you adopt it, like aggression making you successful.
A soulful leader doesn’t have to be leading a group of people, they can simply be leading themselves. If you are able to lead yourself you will be doing a whole lot of good for the entire world. You have to lead yourself to think rationally and make rational decisions, to not be judgemental of people, to manage your own emotions. People will emulate you as a leader, you will become a role model for people.
Traditional leaders who say “do as I say””, but soulful leaders say “do as I do”. I would rather follow a soulful leader, they don’t have a fear of compromising, failing or losing.
