Family

My upbringing was based on nothing more than raw brutal survival. I regularly escaped school to a nearby pond which became a haven for me, playing games that were always about pretending to be someone else.

Because my dad was in and out of prison there was never enough food and so I started stealing. My conditioning for stealing grew with time and I know now I was creating a belief system around my identity.

At 9 years old, I ended up in the system and despite being moved around different children’s homes I never found love or happiness anywhere.

My crimes continued over the years, but I was now consumed by a wave of dark anger towards my parents, who I now held responsible for the lifestyle I was involved in.

During a period in prison, the suicide of a close friend brought me to a point of despair and misery where finally I began to feel shame and remorse about the way I had been living my life.

As a complete contrast, the ensuing years were all about a loving family.

I was determined that my daughter would grow up in an in a warm, supportive and loving environment with the things I had never had, and I achieved this.

My daughter has grown up to be an amazing and well-balanced individual who has 2 children of her own who I adore.

Forest

My passion for Nottingham Forest Football club led me to research all professional clubs in order to understand better the club I loved. When I was in prison Nottingham Forest Football club was my reason for living. I now understand this as a need to be part of a tribe and create an identity for myself

Froth

Years later I met Paul Lowe and along with our mutual love of Nottingham Forest we shared a serious drink addiction. We spent hours talking about our tortured pasts and how we might have had a different life.

Life and Legacy

My children have given me a true purpose in life and a reason to live.

My children have been a powerful force of love and my legacy is that my children haven’t grown up in the same way as me.
