The holidays are finally here. Regardless of what or if you celebrate at this time of year, the final week of December can be a LOT. You might be feeling relief, or you could very well be overwhelmed by chaos—or you could be feeling both! Feelings can be strange like that. Due to losses in my own life, the holiday season is definitely a difficult time of year for me, and so I know firsthand how this week can be a little too much. Thankfully, I’ve internalized a handful of important lessons and techniques that keep me level-headed during Yuletide.

So as my Christmas present to you faithful listeners this year, I want to ease your anxiety and help you enjoy where you’re at right now. To this end, I have five key tips for keeping yourself mentally in balance, including remembering the importance of being present, taking the time to engage with others, and recognizing that our emotions are complex and contradictory, especially at this time of year.

The Finer Details of This Episode:

- I relate the Herculean task of making sure my kids saw Santa this year.

- Acknowledge how you’re feeling and it’s normal to feel happy and sad at the same time.

- Stay away from social media that risks triggering you and take the time to engage the people you’re actually with.

- Keep your holiday expectations realistic and don’t build up an ideal in your head of how they will pan out, just in case.

- Be present in the moment and enjoy the good things—big and small—that happen for you this season.

- Take a breather when you need to and create some space for yourself.

- COMING UP NEXT: I help you change your perspective on the New Year.
