Welcome back to another episode of The Serial Stress Killer Podcast. Today, Chris talks about doubt. Doubt is the key driver of stress, uncertainty loss of confidence. Doubt is what prevents us from making decisions and what keeps us questioning ourselves over and over. Doubt stops us from moving forward mentally, physically and conceptually and in today’s episode, Chris explains how you can use doubt to your advantage.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Doubt makes us feel like we don't have control and it can easily become an epidemic. It's not pleasant because we want to have certainty in life, we want to be sure about what we're doing. Doubt can be crippling and it's easy to recognise, however, it's hard to fight it. No one is immune to self-doubt and even the successful will have questioned themselves.

The feelings of a genuinely dangerous situation are similar to the feelings when we are starting something new. We feel or anticipate someone will judge us. By attempting new activities we will go outside of our comfort zone but it's essential to growth. If we do the same activities over and over again we will feel less doubt in our lives, but you will feel board and feel less excitement in your life.

Our brains often try to protect us with feelings of doubt so we can hold back on decisions. Self-doubt will always be with you, but it's there to protect you.

How To Overcome Feelings Of Fear & Doubt
You have to learn to overcome your inner critic.
Look to your past and remember and recognise your successes.
You have to be aware of the comparison trap.
Get a boost of optimism.
Learn to view setbacks as temporary.
You can and will correct your course along the way.

You will go through periods of doubt all of the time. If you compare yourself to other people and their successes your fear and doubt will come into play. A better way to go about things is to compare yourself to yourself and see how you've kept going, despite all the things that have been thrown at you.

You're not a failure just because you have failed. Sometimes things go well and sometimes they don't. You need to use failure to your advantage and move forward in a smarter way.

BEST MOMENTS

William Shakespeare - "Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt."

Brian Tracey "Life is like an aeroplane journey. From the time you take off you will be off course 99% of the time"

“Let others optimism and enthusiasm flow through you.”

“By our very nature, we live in doubt. We have an uncertain future and it's changing all of the time. There are so many variables and parallels constantly shifting and it's so hard to be sure of anything.”

“Doubt is simply an element of fear and fear is the emotion we feel when we see a potential threat or danger.”
