Among the excitement of the election, we did have some news which sobered everyone up a little yesterday. A new case of Covid-19 was detected in the community. The director general of health Dr Ashley Bloomfield says the man works on ships that had been at the Ports of Auckland and Port Taranaki. He'd been getting Covid tests every fortnight and returned a negative result on October the 2nd but developed respiratory symptoms last Friday. Dr Bloomfield says the case was caught early and the risk is contained. Joining Anna Thomas is University of Otago epidemiologist Professor Michael Baker.
