Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas is a clinical psychologist, international speaker, and impact entrepreneur. Dr Spencer-Thomas was moved to work in suicide prevention after her younger brother died of suicide after a difficult battle with a bipolar condition so she sees suicide prevention and mental health promotion from several perspectives – that of clinical psychologist, mental health advocate, researcher and suicide loss survivor.

Known nationally and internationally as an innovator in social change, Dr. Spencer-Thomas has helped start up multiple large-scale, gap-filling efforts in mental health, including the award-winning campaign Man Therapy and the initiative for suicide prevention in the construction industry, Construction Working Minds. She has held leadership roles with the International Association of Suicide Prevention, the American Association of Suicidology, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, United Suicide Survivors International, and the Carson J Spencer Foundation.

In 2016, she was an invited speaker at the White House where she presented on men s mental health. In her recent TEDx Talk  she shares her goal to elevate the conversation to make mental health promotion and suicide prevention a health and safety priority in schools, workplaces, and communities.

In this podcast, the second with Dr Thackeray, Dr Spencer-Thomas talks specifically about the role toxic work environments and psychosocial hazards play in workplace suicide and the impact organisations can have on workplace mental health.
