II Corinthians Series 19

In this message, Paul continues his boasting, which the Corinthians pushed him to, regarding his qualifications in Christ. He speaks of being caught away to the third heaven and seeing paradise and hearing things not lawful for him to utter. However, he speaks as if he was speaking about someone else. For himself, he would prefer to boast in his infirmities. He would not be imprudent to boast in such things, but he is holding back so that no one would think of him above what he appears to be. He also was given a thorn in the flesh due to the transcendence of the revelations. We discuss this thorn and what it was. They should not have compelled him to such glorying but should have defended his apostleship themselves, since he had worked the signs of an apostle among them. God will judge the Corinthians just as He judges Paul, and what will his judgment be if they do not submit to His apostle? Paul does not want to have to use the powers of an apostle against them, for that would humiliate him before them, since he was unable to bring them into line any other way.
