In this episode of Interlinks we talk to to Llewellyn Bowers, Information Technology Manager, Distribution and Retail at Intersport Elverys in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

Elverys of course is one of the most familiar brands in Irish high-street shopping with a network of over 40 retail outlets all across the country providing sportswear and equipment including both third party and own brand goods.

The company was founded in 1847 and is Ireland’s oldest sports retailer. Today, as well as traditional retailing Elverys is now a major player in e-commerce which grew strongly during the pandemic and continues to grow as the business looks to the future.

Llewellyn, a native of Durban, South Africa, has made his home in Ireland since 2017 and has been involved in several ground-breaking automation implementations in Ireland during that time.

Llewellyn has a very interesting view on how companies should identify those competences that are critical to their success, and control them internally, particularly in the field of information technology. this is crucially important in order to exercise strategic control during a crisis such as a pandemic or indeed a severe supply chain interruption for whatever reason.
