In part 3 of this rewiring series, I will be discussing The Reticular Activating System, or your RAS.

The reticular activating system (RAS) is a network of neurons located in the brain stem.It is responsible for our wakefulness, our ability to focus, our fight-flight response, and how we ultimately perceive the world. It can control what we perceive in our consciousness, essentially a gatekeeper of information.Think of the RAS as a really great bouncer of a club. If it decides a thought doesn’t go through, it doesn’t go through.  It takes instructions from your conscious mind and passes them on to your subconscious. For example, the instruction might be, "listen out for anyone saying my name". Now, subconsciously- you’ll always hear your name called without consciously thinking about it.Similarly- If you decide you want a Black G Wagon, the info will be passed to your SC mind and now, you’ll always see a black GWagon- without consciously looking for it.If the instruction is- “I don’t think I am good enough for this mastermind”, that information is passed to the SC mind, and now you will always be reminded why you’re not good enough.  These instructions you establish for your RAS are essentially your core beliefs and the goals you set. Whatever these are, this part of the brain will look for evidence of it – and it will stop you from seeing anything that doesn't support these core beliefs and goals. So if consciously you believe you are meant for something, you’ll begin to receive proof of that.

Next episode- Limiting Beliefs and where they come from.
