A client of mine recently was telling me how she had spent thousands of dollars on courses and coaching programs to try and grow her business, none of which were successful for her. She has always been one to take action, but even still she was not having the success that she was looking for from these programs. I personally believe that there is an epidemic in the online space where so many people are offering to hand out blueprints that will get you to 6-figures or grow your business or get you clients guaranteed. The problem is that it’s great to have a solid foundation to jump off of, but it’s also important to co-author the blueprint for your individual business.

Buying into a blueprint that you haven’t created and don’t 100% know for certain will work for your business is not going to guarantee success. One of the core foundations of my own coaching business is the idea that you need to co-author a strategy and game plan with clients based on their personal business. If I learned anything from my Master’s degree in Leadership, it’s that you have to get people to buy into the outcome that you are trying to create. Feed me the data about your business, give me what your strengths are, and let’s create a strategy around that. As I share this, one of the things that recently brought this idea full circle was watching the show, “You Vs. The Wild” with Bear Grylls on Netflix. The whole thing is interactive, and you get to make the decisions about where you go, what tools to use, how to implement things. With each decision, he shares the benefits and dangers of each option so that you can make an educated choice.

I’m all about giving my clients each and every option so that they can choose which one feels the best for their business. Although there are some universal elements to starting a business, such as consistency or mindset, others need the personalization that you aren’t going to get from buying into someone else’s blueprints.
