Coach Dave finished Ironman Texas in The Woodlands, TX on May 16. It was a long and painful day for him and the guys talk about how the race went and the lessons learned. Dave finished the race in 16 hours and 50 minutes, which is a longer day that many expected but the performance was a gutsy one. The guys discuss Dave's near term triathlon future.
Once they get through that discussion the guys discuss the WTC/Ironman announcement that was made on the heels of the US DOJ declaring that Ironman broke the law with it's execution of the Kona lottery system. You didn't hear about that? Ironman was made to pay around $2.8m in fines to the US DOJ. The $2.8m of athlete money. A day later, Ironman announced it was opening their own coaching certification process. For $600 Ironman will "certify" a coach to work with athletes for their Ironman pursuits. The process seems interestingly simple. No pre-requisites. 14 hours of web-based training and then pass a test and BOOM... you're a certified coach. Coach Dave goes on a bit of a rant on this. Coach Mike reigns him in on that. It's an interesting discussion.
