Previous Episode: Seven Last Words: Thirst
Next Episode: Seven Last Words: Commit

Part of our sermon series, The Seven Last Words of Jesus, in which we will reflect on the last phrases that Jesus uttered on the cross and what they mean for our own lives. This Sunday, March 11, we will continue with our sermon series on the "Seven Last Words" of Jesus spoken from the cross. This week we will look at Jesus' sixth word found in John 19:28-30: "Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, 'I am thirsty.' A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, 'It is finished!' Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." As Jesus was dying on the cross for us, what exactly was the "It" in "It is finished?" In Colossians 2:14 Paul declares, "He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross." We'll consider the charges against us that have been nailed to the cross, forgiven, and are now completely finished.
