During the pandemic, the topic of ADA compliance for web cooled off. There wasn't much room in the news cycle.

ADA requirements can be confusing waters legally.

But it’s morally clear the web is to be accessible for all, and it’s just plain smart business to join in.

NerdBrand strives to create websites that are accessible to all disabled, partially disabled, and temporarily disabled users.

In March 2022, the Justice Department issued updated ADA guidelines for the web:

ADA for web is like detecting mold in your home.

Catching it while it’s early and making appropriate fixes is an expense that nobody wants, sure.

But ignoring a mold problem and waiting until you’re forced to remediate it is far, far more expensive.

Plus, lawyers…

Would you rather work with a bunch of Nerds to prevent a problem or a team of lawyers to clean up the problem?

If sued for violations, ADA infractions can badly cripple a business or end an organization entirely.

I've seen remediation costs from $20,000 to upwards of $100,000.

NerdBrand's ADA Web Design Services

We’ve made it a regular habit for years to check websites for ADA compliance. So, we're fine and absolutely do have the capability to meet these needs. Our current site builds are within 80-90% compliance, or formally, Level AA Compliance.

At NerdBrand, we can and do build websites with ADA guidelines front and center, from design through development.

WordPress and many plugins in the WordPress community have been updated to meet ADA Guidelines.

Worth a strong warning: getting an ADA WordPress plugin does not make a website ADA compliant. In fact, it can put a target on your back for lawyers.

Need some help?

If you are concerned about your website's ADA compliance, you can find tools online to start identifying problems. But remediation should be handled by an agency or professional development team.
