From the Foreword of Hope's Book, “The Book Sisters" – “HOPE ANDERSEN wrote her first novel at the age of 60. In her early career as a writer, she published both short fiction and poetry. She was awarded the Wellesley College Playwriting Award for her one-act play Room, which was produced at the Lyric Stage, Boston. She has worked intermittently over the years as a newspaper critic, a ghostwriter, an editor, a teacher, and a screenwriter. A native New Englander, she now lives in North Carolina with her husband Thom. They have three grown children, two dogs, a cat and a fish. “On Thursday's episode of Moments of Clarity, Tiffany Werhner LMHC, speaks with survivor and advocate, Hope Andersen. Hope is an established author who writes about personal improvement and self help.

Hope has a dialogue with Tiffany about the dramatic effects of mental illness, particularly Bipolar Disorder. She speaks of the overwhelmingly profound impact that it can have on the sufferer, the family, and the course of everyday life. She speaks about how this is especially problematic when coupled with substance use disorder, which can often be how someone with Bipolar Disorder attempts to self-medicate. One problem is fueled and maintained by another problem.

She speaks about how recovery, although arduous, is possible.
