This is the first episode to introduce these topics in your language toolbox. The first tool I’m going to introduce is called Joint Attention.  In order for a child to communicate, they need to have some foundation skills mastered. These foundational skills are what allow a child to have what I like to call an engaged interaction. An engaged interaction is when a child is participating back and forth, like when you toss a ball back and forth to a friend. In conversation, each person takes turns and the child gets to practice communication skills in a natural way. So the first skill I’m going to focus on to get an engaged interaction is called Joint Attention. What exactly is joint attention?
