Christ has made it clear. The Christian life is not easy, but is it really as hard as he describes it in Matthew 10? Jesus helps us see what a Christian can expect for remaining faithful to Christ and his Word. Through the eyes of Jesus, we see not peace, but division; not ease, but a cross. We find ourselves torn between love of family and love of Christ. He wants us to love our family, but not more than we love Jesus. Sadly, such faithful love for Jesus can leave us alone, if our family members reject him and his Word. Yet through the eyes of Jesus, we see that in order to love Jesus “more than these,” we need Jesus to love us most.
